So I just had an idea for a Netflix Series. Jim plays a wrestling promotor from the 1970s who runs a southern territory but as “Mainstream Wrestling” reaches its peak, the territories begin to fade. My thought is that it could actually be set in the 70s OR it could be set now in which he plays a former wrestling promotor who the “mainstream wrestling” ran out of business and now he finds himself trying to open an independent promotion but being that “Rasslin” guy its harder & harder to adjust. I see the humor kinda being like The Office,Cornette ranting and screaming at wrestlers about how great the past was. This would be a funny series

Buzz Sawyer did have a pretty damn good career for being as short as it was. The Georgia territory was where ge achieved the majority of his success. He was part of the original Legion of Doom stable for a short time. He had an epic feud with Tommy Rich that has reached infamous levels. He had an underrated feud with Roddy Piper as well, that involved Piper putting on one of the most slept on, yet great promos ever (it's on youtube and it could not be done today). Sawyer had a really good run, in Mid-South Wrestling as well. I also thought his WCW run was extremely underrated as well. It wasn't just him in WCW that I thought was underrated but the entire stable and angle he was involved in there. J-Tex Corporation was great. You have Gart Hart managing (i know it was not his best work....but it's still Gary Hart), then you have Terry Funk, Great Muta, Buzz Sawyer, Dick Slater & The Dragonmaster (Kendo Nagasaki...not the World of sport version...he was a great trainer who was one of Stu Hart's top trainers in "The Dungeon"). How can you hate on any stable that features that lineup? He may have been a dick in real life, but he was a very good heel and could put on a good match, and he was believable as the "Mad Dog". Another promising performer that had his run and life cut short by drugs.

If it wasn't for the substance abuse and myriad other personal issues he had seemingly no interest in addressing or seeking help from others for Buzz would have been a big presence and highly figured in everywhere he went and had the storied 20+ year career. But when you combine all that mess with that famous winning personality you always hear about with him it all went pretty much how it was going to go. Sucks he wasn't willing to make a few changes for the better, his life and career would have been longer and better for it and he would be remembered well or at least better. Instead he's thought of for being a drug addled asshole bully who squandered his talent and potential pretty much full stop.

What you may not realize is that Buzz, Bruce Woyan was his real name, was not scared of anything and loved to cause havoc in real life. Almost suicidal in a way. I did his graphic design for his school and he paid me. He never stiffed me but would stiff anybody he thought might protest just so he could kick the shit out of them. His wife was incredibly beautiful and devoted. Even so, he made the wrong people angry and his early demise was not a surprise. Towards the end before I moved to SF from Sacramento he did kind of turned on me but I stood up for myself and stuck my finger in his chest 5 or 6 times really hard(do not anger me) and he looked at me and said some clever veiled threat I can’t remember. Next time I saw him he stuck his four fingers into my abdomen really quick but friendly as I was speaking to his wife. It was an acknowledgement that he respected me for standing up for myself. After a few years I realize that he was a good dude but he hated cowards and loved to fuck with someone who bullied people. RIP Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer.

Buzz, as Bruce Woyan, was wrestling in the Florida State Finals (Dixie Hollins High School) and was ahead with 3 seconds to go. His opponent flipped him and pinned him. He was, shall we say, a known loose cannon. Soon, he made his appearance on CWF with Gordon Solie. He was a legit wrestler when it came to WRESTLING but he very soon began to phone it in when "Outside Attractions" began to take over. At the end, his matches were little more than bite, scratch, kick. You know the drill. An interesting character, an untimely end.
