I worked with a TV producer from Ansonia, OH (near IN state line) who is in his 70s and would have been about 12/13 years old at the time of this story about Dayton wrestling. He says everyone watched TV on Sat night at neighbors houses to watch wrestling LIVE (according to him) from Dayton. That's all I can add to this story. It may have retransmitted Cincinnati programming, but the wrestling he watched was supposedly from Dayton.

Dayton, along with most of Ohio, aired Big Time Wrestling. The Dayton show on Saturday night was 50% taped Cobo Sheik matches and 50% local Hara Arena matches. The closer to Cinci and Columbus you got, you could usually pick up Mid-South, Georgia, Crockett, or Gulas, but pretty much everything west of Cincinnati was all Sheik.

WLW-D is now WDTN, in Dayton, and was the first broadcast station license awarded in the City of Dayton. It was given to Crosley Broadcasting in 1947, they being the holders of WLW/WLWT. Yes, WLW is the oldest broadcaster in Cincy. Funny side note: the signal for 700 WLW was so strong for a time, that if you unscrewed your lightbulbs at home, and had it in the nightstand, the bulb would stay lit. This was during WWII, and the signal increase was granted by FDR himself. Sorry for the tangent, but I'm slightly trained in broadcast and learned all about this tidbit in my high school Broadcasting Arts course, being from Hamilton, Ohio just north of Cincinnati.

The AWA World Heavyweight Title belt was stolen off the time-keeper's table in Davenport Iowa in 1975. The way I heard it, the remains of the belt were later found, with all the jewels wedged off the belt.

The intro music sounds like the opening title theme to a 1970s/1980s zombie movie. I'm not saying this is a bad thing.

There used to be a WLW network going which included the radio station 700 WLW on AM radio, WLWT channel 5 in Cincinnati, WLWD in Dayton (now WDTN), WLWI in Indianapolis (now WTHR), WLWA in Atlanta (now WXIA), and WLWC in Columbus (now WCMH). The three WLW television stations in Ohio were NBC affiliates, and carried common programming along with WLWI in Indianapolis (an ABC affiliate). Most of these shows were produced at the WLWT studios on Crosley Square, and included The Ruth Lyons 50-50 Club, the Paul Dixon Show, and Midwestern Hayride. In 1969, the FCC enacted its "one-to-a-market" rule, which prohibited common ownership of AM radio and television stations with overlapping coverage areas, so the network was dissolved. Only 700 and WLWT in Cincinnati got to keep the WLW letters, even though the two are in no way partners with each other anymore.

What happened to wrestling in the 60's. Seems like when they talk years in these shows the go from 50's and then skip to 70's.

The '60s were the Years of Bruno. Sorry to say it, because there were many great talents on the card back then, but he was the face of wrestling till 1970.

one thing I was always been curious about. Pro Wrestling dealing with organized crime.A amongst other business they ran illegal sports gambling. And with pro wrestling being pro wrestling. How did that go down. At some point they had to be smarted up. So would they even take bets? Or worst case scenario. Found out on their own. If they didn't take bets.....that should be a giant red flag about the true nature of wrestling. Then again so would winning every single bet.
