Why is Ivan Koloff still missing from the HOF?? He ended Bruno's first world title run, had at least 3 strong heel runs, and drew money everywhere he went from the 70s through the mid 90s! WTF???

Borneo Jimmy What's worse in his case is that WWE invited him to see Sammartino's induction in 2013, he was in the crowd when he should have been inducted that year along with Bruno, Backlund and Foley. Too bad he decided to join the lawsuit months later, it killed all his chances to get inducted down the line.

Hearing "Santo" get a Legacy (legit - there was NO bigger Lucha star then, now, or ever will be than Santo) actually got me thinking that gimmick "lineages" should get in that way too. Santo, Hijo del Santos & Hijo Jr., Tigers Mask, La Parka/L.A. Park, Super Parka & La Hija del Parka, Mascaras Sagrada, Misticos, & Jushin Liger/Liger Black. Oh, for the record, Rikidozan was FAR more over outside of Japan because, though he WAS a native of Japan, he was an ethnic Korean. Seems that Japanese soceity still thinks that native ethnic Koreans are like your idiot bastard 3rd cousin 5 times removed - still related, but definitely yokels. Now, THAT'S slowly changing - Riki Chosu & Saito are legends despite their ethnicity, & bigotry exists everywhere, but it says quite a bit that Ethnic Koreans - no matter how many generations their families have been native Japanese citizens - are STILL mandated by the Interior Ministry & Ministry of the Police/Japanese Combined Self-Defense Forces, to carry "Internal Passports" at ALL times!

El Santo deserved a separate induction and his son is still alive and also a legend in wrestling
@FerretJohn
@FerretJohn 5 жыл бұрын
@@RandalfElVikingo Not really, El Santo may have been the greatest Lucha star in Mexican History but the problem with him was he never travelled outside of Mexico. He was the Big Fish in his particular pond and had no interest in testing out the greater ocean, so most fans outside of Mexico never even heard of him. Outside Mexico Mil was the greatest, simply because he travelled all over the world
@RandalfElVikingo
@RandalfElVikingo 5 жыл бұрын
@@FerretJohn I find that hard to believe, the Big Fish stuff because there were a lot of legends like Blue Demon, Perro Aguayo, El Cavernario Galindo, Gory Guerrero, Rayo de Jalisco, Huracán Ramírez, Black Shadow and, like you said, Mil Máscaras. It was the golden era of mexican wrestling and El Santo was leading, but the names I mentioned were not lacking in fame or followers. But even if El Santo is not as known worldwide, he deserved a separate induction just for being one of the first wrestlers to make it big in movies, even before Hulk Hogan or The Rock, he is an important precedent for wrestling in mainstream (also, his induction alone would've made big views with the mexican market; I even read an article about him a month ago by one of the biggest newspapers in México, so he is not a forgotten legend).
@FerretJohn
@FerretJohn 5 жыл бұрын
@@RandalfElVikingo Again, El Santo only ever wrestled in Mexico, all his movies while very popular in their day, were only seen in theatres in Mexico, and the last one was made in 1982, most of the other names you mentioned also only wrestled in Mexico, they may be legends there but the average US fan, whom the WWE caters primarily to, wouldn't know any of them very well (Gory in the US was known mostly as Eddie's dad). Now I do know El Santo and I respect the hell out of his accomplishments, I consider myself a wrestling historian who's been watching everything for 40 years now, but to expect everyone to know him because he was a God in Mexico is like expecting everyone outside Memphis to know all the accomplishments of Jackie Fargo or Sputnik Monroe, or everyone outside England to know Big Daddy.

Matsuda wrestled back in the 60s and 70s, primarily in Japan and Florida, he was one of the first Japanese stars in fact to move full-time to the US, and as a trainer he was one of the best (though with a bit of a rep as a hard-ass) who trained a lot of guys, not just Hogan and Luger

In all fairness, while it WAS a feel-good thing & added a layer of "good guy" complexity to Braun's character, GOTTA say it didn't really make a Hell of a lot of sense. Not as whack as, say, Russo putting the Big Gold Belt on Arquette (I guess that Yahoo Serious, Pauly Shore, & Emo Phillips weren't available), but it was SO out of left field! Same for Braun getting a special SSA belt for winning the Greatest Royal Rumble! If they're gonna ride the Saudi Deal train completely off the rails, why not just give him a Gulf States Championship & have Mansoor win it off him? Might as well make a Championship mean something over there!

For the most part the Legacy wing is for the older wrestlers, the ones less known to the general fans of today, and the ones who've passed on. Jim Londos for instance, yes in his day he was arguably the greatest wrestler in history, but his day was 80 years ago, if they made a spot for him in the regular presentation the award would have had to be presented to his great-grandchildren
