thank you so much for sharing this. in all my searching on here, this is the first video that actually lets me watch closely and follow your thought process without having to decipher 360p pixel goop recorded at a bad angle, sped up to 5x speed with background music. also it's so nice to see you reply to people's comments. i hope i can start asking informed questions soon, but currently i'm still in the process of shaping my first steel pan hybrid.

Hi Jerred, thanks for sharing your knowledge through these great videos! When you hammer the distal from the top of the pan, are you lowering the fundamental to marry it with the 5th and octave? Would you be willing to elaborate, please?

Thanks, yeah fundamental and octave take more work to drop. But try tuning them all simultaneously, they will all go out while trying to dial in one by one. Also Tuning the fifth pretty close then raising it to pitch from hammering the top side, next to the note helps raise it tons. Usually tighten the octave on the inside bottom border of the note. And raise the pitch of fundamental either on the outside of the top of border, or inside of pan on the border. But you also have to hammer the bubbles of the note itself to adjust the compression to get the notes in the correct balance. The pinching of the borders are for fine tuning after the note is loosened enough and close. If the note is to low in pitch, tap around on the outside of the note on the area your trying to raise, on the top of the pan

I got one recently, it was perfectly tuned and then I took it to a family gathering and my uncle got real excited and started banging on it jumping up and down. I was happy to see him enjoying himself, but he basically destroyed my handpan. Now 3 notes sounds like dying horses. I am so sad. I'm looking at your videos and I am looking for hope.

what brand of pan do you have? I wouldn’t attempt tuning it yourself, if that’s what your thinking. If you can send back to your builder would be best, or if you can find a good builder in your area to work on it

It was off temu at an affordable price. I wouldn't mind tuning it myself. If I make it worse, at least I will learn something in the process. If you can point me to any resources that breaks it down to complete noob like myself, I will forever be in your debt.@@jerredchouseman
