I got to emerald this season before sort of giving up the set. Went from a pretty good winrate and top4 rate to just playing fun comps for shits and giggles and completely tanking my stats. Curious to see what LP I'd get for wins now since the MMR should be shite. This set was decent, but I feel the gap between top tier and "ok" builds is too large. I can highroll out of my ass playing some odd builds or then unpopular builds and still place bot4 because contested mage or contested hunters is still more powerful than other uncontested comps.

Wait but shouldn't it be reversed? If you have lower MMR the losses should be lower and the wind higher and vice versa

MMR is basically just the rank the system thinks you should be in. So if you are Diamond 1 with a Diamond 4 MMR it tries to get you to the rank you are "supposed" to be in by making you loose more points.

Nah it's more like you get to face people who are near your mmr, so basically player lower in rank. You are suppose to win, so if you don't the game make you lose more and if you win, yeah, it was expected, so you gain less.

Lp gains are often based on quite a few factors. In tft it's based on your mmr, and lobby strength (which is often dictated by the former). So if you are a diamond player in a lobby of plats and lose the lp lose will hit you much much harder than it were reversed and you were a diamond player in a master/challenger lobby. This is part of the reason why if you play with a lower/higher mmr friend your lp gains will be completely fucked, with you almost completely skipping or losing full divisions based 1sts/8ths

Well it is a dumb reason imo, just don't mask it and make a single system like it should, if you lose, you lose, make it clear to the player that it loses and there are consequences.

@@rikka8957 it is ranked for a reason, if you lose you lose, that is why a ranking system exists in the first place, having a fake rank is just dumb. Imagine if Magnus lost a lot in chess and still kept his title as grandmaster, or if you lose a football match and instead of getting demoted you keep playing agaist the same teams over and over again and keep the title of " first league "?

@@fenilli I agree with your philosophy, but devs will make choices that make more people play the game. It’s a similar idea with losers queue in LOL, which objectively is a stupid idea concerning team balancing; however, in practice it keeps players hooked, which is what RIOT execs want. Ultimately, players are scared to play ranked when they near their peak. Having a ‘fake rank’ alleviates the pressure and encourages them to play more. That is the point that Boxbox is trying to make in the video
