Fun fact : The reason so many people love Awaken and why it is so important is that it's the very first cinematic that actually contains real lore, and continues stories that were in progress at that time, Riven's capture by Noxus, the second invasion of Ionia, and Camille's investigation in Piltover. Up until now LoL cinematics were mostly Worlds hype videos, Skin ads, or focused on a single champion. Awaken was the first to be a *story* cinematic.

Love how you are respectful of the League community, regardless of how the League reception out or ARACANE's success is sometimes toxic and just another overhyped game. Looking forward to embrace more details with the lore and the champions. All these small details are showcased in game design and skill set, linked with the lore. ex. Jhin is an Ionian(china korea japan inspired region) artist who deems death as an art. he shoots 4shots of bullet with fixed attack speed, ingame(usually these roles gain much attack speed) and hits HARD with 100% crit chance with his 4th shot. 4 means death, in Asian culture. 4 pronounced [shi] and [shi] is the same sound with 「死」meaning death.(at least here in Japan.) So usually 4 is a taboo number in many cases. Jhin is the fan favorite pinnacle of RIOTs champion design. knowing these little details will boost your experience further, even for the sequels of ARCANE and more to come(i wish) no intention to push you in anyway, just looking forward to see your journey through all these League content!! cheers from japan. sorry for my bad english... hope it made sense in some way lol

On the original Kda song, the reason they made it was that worlds that year was in Korea, so they felt it was a fitting theme. On the Awaken one, if you look at the scene after Draven (Darius' brother) threw the weapons, you'll see that he broke her chains to fight her as equal

fun fact since you were commenting on the different animation styles: riot USUALLY hires different animation studios and/or small animators for each event that needs it, this gives more animation companies and animators the opportunity to become popular and get recognition (as an animator with the dream of working for riot myself I appreciate this a lot)

Korean players have dominated the pro-scene for quite a while and to this day are still a major powerhouse, so Riot has a pretty strong relationship with Korea. Also, League of Legends' rise in popularity globally matches pretty closely with the rise of kpop's global popularity through the 2010s. It was just really good timing for both of those industries to meet together and collaborate for K/DA - POP/STARS.

Some people complained about the graphics but honestly it was pretty awesome to watch a game studio make an interactive online concert with some of the best tunes I've heard in recent memory. The lore was so well thought out as well! The pre-concert scrolling art style 'cinematics' really fleshed out the situation of the conflict that made for the central focus of the concert so would probably recommend watching them before or during stream :)

A quick explaination of the past and current lore of Darkin : - In the original lore, the Darkin were a race of demons that was almost entirely exterminated except for five individuals who became trapped in weapons. Those five were Aatrox, Rhaast, Varus, and two others that weren't known. At one point the writers decided they didn't want to deal with another race of creatures unrelated to anything else in the game, so they retconned that. - In the current lore, the Darkin are fallen God-Warriors of Shurima. The God-Warriors are protectors of Shurima, who go through a ceremony using the Sun Disc to become inhabited by the power of the celestials (like Nasus, Renekton and Azir). After millenia of battles against the Void and the use of blood magic, they became insane and blood-thirsty, and were trapped in their own weapons to contain them during the great Darkin war.

Im highly sure that she will be one of the main characters in Arcane SS2 cause she's a important character to Piltover but Riot kept her away from the entire SS1. I just feel it worth pointing out: As you've guessed, the whole scene is from the mind of Jhin, the "Artist" (in the loosest sense of the word). The reality is much, MUCH darker. His traps, if I'm not mistaken, are actually explosives fueled by magic, full of razor wire - so, the explosions and colorful clouds are, in reality, just geysers of blood, guts and body parts. Jhin is just THAT twisted. He sees it all as beautiful.

a few years ago League created KDA as promo for their Worlds fest/championship. because Ahri already had her old pop star skin, they decided to make a concept kind of alike. they ended up taking some of the most loved female characters from the game, each having a dominant role and different background. Akali being their chinese but also korean speaking rapper, Evelynn is their vocalist and sound producer, Ahri is their korean lead singer and founder of the band and Kai'sa is their south african/chinese choreographer. the team that created this concept have a video explaining their process on it uploaded on league's official channel too!

Note : A Darkin is an ascended (a godworrior of shurima) that as been touch by the void & driven mad. Darkin where so mad that they went full rampage in which they learned blood magic so they can resurect in anybody that are close those them or their corpse. They were sealed in their weapon but if you come to close to it... they use you to revive once again.

The Targon gods (targon is a mountain) figured out how to handcuff them, so they sealed them in weapons and hid them so that no one could find them.

IDK if anyone pointed it out but in Awaken theres a really popular theory that what we're seeing is the fight from the POV of Jhin. All those colorful explosions are actually just blood splatering everywhere but because of Jhins delusions he sees a beautiful firework display.

Quick history on darkins: Shurima (this desert region/country) had this ritual called the ascension, where worthy people could get the power of the sun making them big, Immortal, strong and sometimes have supernatural abilities. These ascended used to fight back the void; but, as the void corupts everything it touches, in time they too were driven mad by it. And so they had to be trapped into their weapons. There is a running theory that shimmer is related in some way to the void this would explain all its effects, it's color and why it corrupted the hex-core when Victor used it

It is now way more than that, they are a full fledged kpop group now. They even have their own EP and Lightstick! Their fandom are called BLADES Ahri - Miyeon of G-idle Akali - Soyeon of G-idle Kai’sa - Jaira Burns Evelynn - Madison Beer Kai’sa and Evelynn have been voiced by other artists as well in other songs. This track recently went gold this year and the group has been beating records set my real kpop girl groups. They have done “photoshoots” with Louie Vuitton, Ducati, Elle Magazine and others. They have also done a couple interviews with real people. Akali’s motorcycle in their MV for More was actually custom made by Ducati. Check out their 2018 live performance for popstars!

The Darkin (Aatrox, Varus and Rhaast) are Ascended (like Nasus, Renekton, Xerath and Azir) that were afflicted with void corruption / mental scars of war (both are implied but could be just one of them). Ascended are immortal but they have the minds of mortals (ish) but after the Void War (long story, TLDR: Void rift opened up in the Southern Continent and Shurima went to war to push the Void creatures back) they still had pupose in serving Shurima and their emperor. However, when Azir died and Shurima fell the afflicted Ascended were left without purpose or guidance, driving them made. This led to the Darkin War where the twisted Ascended fought amongst themselves, with humans in the crossfire. As the centuries passed they learnt many primal magics (e.g. blood magic) and shaped their bodies to be stronger, becoming unreconisable as Ascended, now the fully distict Darkin. As the Darkin War came to an end the remaining Darkin trapped eachother in their own weapons and wielded them until no actual Darkin remain, all being trapped within their weapons. The remaining Darkin (theorised as 5, but there could be more) were hidden away so no mortal would attempt to wield the weapons in a foolish grab for power. However this didn't last. First some nameless guy picked up Aatrox (trapped in a sword) allowing him to take over his body and walk the world once more. Then the two Ionian hunters jump into the pool holding Varus (the bow) allowing Varus to fuse the 3 of them, body and soul. The fusion remains incomplete as of yet, but Varus has nominal control. Finally, Kayn is a prodidious member of the Order of Shadow that was sent to destroy Rhaast (the scythe), but instead took Rhaast for his own to wield. It has made him stronger but he constantly must fight Rhaast to stop him from taking control (a feat that should be impossible, yet Kayn is just that strong). Sorry for the info dump, I left out a most of the stuff to keep it short but I'm summerising a lot here. I would strongly recommend going to the League Universe website and reading all of the Champion biographies, they are very good for getting a good idea of things (plus there is a map of Runeterra there as well).

Mordekaiser is legit one of the sickest champions, a fricking warlord, he was so overpowered. When he died he noticed there was no "Valhalla" so he decided to be a kind of god of death and build an army he even came back to life to conquer the world again only to be betrayed by his inner circle and now with his army, when he get resurrected a third time, he will come back with an army and be close to unstopable

Varus is a darkin, an old group of shurimarian descendants that became corrupted and were sealed into weapons, there are only 5 remaining. The darkin weapons corrupt their holders and possess their bodies, Atrox is a good example, and kayn is fighting with his weapon for control. Varus, on the other hand, one of the lovers tried to save the other lofe's using the darkin, but varus noted that one is strong while is next to the other, so instead he fused both of them in one body and the darkin took the control of them.

About the "content afterwards" part, I'd honestly suggest looking at the Legends of Runeterra champion reveals before looking at the roster in full. This is mostly because I feel like a lot of the reveals give a good bit of character personality, and when you do get around to the full roster it might help with putting more to the character besides just the art for lots of the roster (besides what you've seen in previous cinematics.)

To explain the hole 4 story, Jhin is a character with 4 auto attacks that he counts when atqing. The fourth one deals a lot more damage. Then he needs to recharge his gun. And when he shoots the last bullet, he sometimes says: 4!!
