You're correct it is about Ambessa and the wolf is a spirit but its half the spirit of death, wholly known as "kindred". Lamb is the other half symbolised by the figure at the top of the stairs that offered that crystal. Ambessa fought to be worthy of staying alive so wolf didnt "claim" her life. This appearance of kindred is from her nation of Noxus' idealogy of Kindred (death).This was meant to show her lore, get excitement for her release as a champion in LoL and show off new skins for other characters. She was pregnant with Mel at the time. Hope this helps.

@@btnfox Ambessa (Mels mom) is the newest League Champion and as of now she is laughably overpowered. She got released a few days after the cinematic dropped. Also just for context kindred has two sides because these both represent different ways of dying. The Lamb welcomes those who accept death and the wolf forcefully takes those who struggle against it. In this cinematic the wolf aproaches Ambessa as she is dying and tests her. That's what we see when she fights against the Gladiator looking dude. In the end the lamb she carries through the desert gets fed to a crystal that looks like many fused wolf heads - i'm not sure about this but from what i gathered this represents her willingness to fight death even when it's not pretty. And in the end she beats death making the wolf leave and waking to protect her family (remembering the child she carries). She basically is too badass and stubborn for death to claim her and embraces a violent death by the wolf in exchange for a second try in life. So in short her lore goes insanely hard.

In Noxus the Wolf is the principal Aspect of Death, so, the Noxians pray and respect him so much. In this cinematic, the wolf let them live (Ambessa y Mel), but she was pregnat alrrady

this music video confirms that Mel (daughter of Ambessa) is chosen by the wolf. League nerds will know what that means. No spoilers for Arcane but well Mel is very special and we will learn more in act 3 of season 2.
