Or the impulse of that explosion somehow give him enough energy to rejuvenate all that lost energy. And after that, he will understand that hextech and shimmer are not the way to prosperity, or as he said "Humanity is the thing destroying everything" and he will lose his emotions, driven only by motivation to help zaun and fight piltover. Idk what writers are gonna come up with still.

SPOILERS In the Act 3 preview we see Caitlyn ask Jayce ‘Viktor’s at the centre of all this, isn’t he?’ And we also see the healed people rise again (somewhat). I wonder if he survives like you mentioned but decides that humanity isn’t worth it so him and his community (turned army) then decide they should just kill everyone - no sides picked.
