Every year of my life has been spent hearing about lack of production of materials in SA. Everyone iwas complaining about our minnirals being exported rather than products AND JOBS being created from those minnerals. The ANC governments attitude was to close ALL "apartheid" structures and import what is needed from the EU and America and other countries thus.making SA a consumerist and JOBLESS nation dependant on the pollitical whims of certain countries and their leftist communist political outlook . This is why Black People are never able to stand on thei own feet .They FOLLOW leftist leaders wit no morals bent on destruction and always whatch from the sidelines ,with great envy ,how rich those leaders get through bribes and corruption without realizing that the intention and political policy is to break the country down rather than building it up.This even extends to leftist educational policies as well. Stupidly they then cellibrate their political power by behaving like hooligans polluting the streets and water while destroying their means to a better life and country. As painful as it is for the affected families, this presents an opportunity for Government ZA to start mineral refineries using facilities such as the one Acelor-Mittal owns in the 3 regions. In the medium term, upskilling the retrenched employees will bring their steel production skills handy in the mineral refinery process. We lack strategic thinkers in most senior positions; we have people who see obstacles rather than opportunities presented by obstacles.

Get the Chinese to buy it, run it, and create a supply chain that they export for their use. (There won't be job losses, and it won't be badly run.) I still think there are major European shareholders and Board members that are part of major companies in SA, that actually want to make African countries that are involved in BRICS, to collapse.

And all the people who will loose jobs must go thank their union bosses, the people who take their money to join a cause which is driven by those people, operating it for profit without giving a hoot about the labor force. Unions should be BANNED and the economy will do better, there will be more foreign investment, and the people who want to work and earn a living will work and do that while the rest who are lazy will be let go to make room for those who want to work.

What determines success in the steel industry? Low business taxes. South Africa hasn't lowered its business taxes like the entire world has done... Google The corporate income tax rate in the EU has dropped from 32.1% to 21.2% between 2000 and 2023 If your business taxes are HIGHER than the rest of the world, every product you produce you won't be able to export.... It's time to understand and study mathematics and economics!

The problem is that China manufacturers steel at a cheaper price than what any South Africa company can produce, but sad part is its South Africa iron ore they are using
