ISCOR/YSCOR was created to keep South Africa independent, save foreign currency, and create jobs. Just like SASOL. Even though ISCOR was not profitable from the start, the many benefits was enough to keep them going. When it was sold by short sighted greedy government officials, they did not think of the repercussions. China can import our raw material, make steel, and then sell the steel back to us, cheaper than we can make steel. And that is because the Chinese governmnet manage everything to benefit China. Something our government can not do.
