She has the same mana cost as Serra, same starting loyalty, and same loyalty costs on her abilities as Serra. The only difference are the abilities themselves. I really like the nod to Serra on this one

I love that we get an angel planeswalker and I get the throwback, but I just hoped she would be something more. Like the chase card of the set with something unique or be a bit more powerful.

Elspeth is immediately going into my Lae'zel deck. +1/+1 counters and she'll ultimate immediately if i have any kind of proliferate of counter manipulation. Plus, she's my favourite character in all of mtg 😌

As a commander player... I have so many decks I can see this working in, and I couldn't be more excited. Giada angel tribal (since there are utility creatures in the deck that aren't inherently angels), any number of token decks, and even Kros caring about counters.

It’s gonna make an impact in that small format called “Duel Commander” for Mono White to have a sort of recursion against control decks if she sticks

With all the proliferation floating around in standard I could see her getting ulted pretty frequently. She is a potent addition to Boros/Mono White aggro and every midrange strategy that can fit her in. 4 mana for a walker that can produce its own lifelink army and if your opponent eventually whiles the board you ult and get everything back

I think Elspeth has a place in standard soon but sadly, the Wanderer exists right now. UW soldiers will keep a lot of things post rotation save for Brutal Cathar. Elspeth can make soldier decks a lot more resilient.

i would love her in a Queen Kayla bin-Kroog commander. you can discard a bunch of card with her ability and using espeth as a game ender could make the deck a little more agresive

She's great for my Jetmire commander, if i have some double token effects it create more token, her other ability will allow my to either give 1 creature more power and evasion or bring back any early game permanent i lost.

My issue is that flying isn't until end of turn so why not put flying counter? It's a thing and it helps remember things why not use the mechanic they made?

How would that even work? Sorin could make a new angel I guess, but Avacyn doesn't exist in any way shape or form any more so it would be a completely new angel.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but by way of the story she’s in, saving Ajani was a choice given to her, and she chose the greater good to give Wrenn the chance she needs to reach realmbreaker. Leaving Ajani to possibly die on Theros

Yeah big fan of uncle Ajani! Not my favorite but still one of the best characters. Given the exchange between Elspeth and Daxos it wasn't going to be so much saving as it would be "release"

I think this is a bit new on how we always just have to remember it has flying. There isn’t a flying counter at all. It’s almost like perpetual.

It's not new, this goes back to Riding the Dilu Horse. Perpetual remains in effect even when the card leaves play, the creature here stops having flying and being an angel once it leaves the battlefield.

Finally. An Angel Planeswalker. I've been waiting for years for this. Ever since planeswalker cards became a thing, I wondered when an Angel would join the ranks. It's sort of cheating, because Elspeth is an established character. Still do not care; she's getting added to the collection.

I disagree, and here is why. It slots into the already good Standard white Lifegain deck. It's better than Serra Paragon, and it works better with the overall strategy. She's good on curve, mostly because the lifelinker buffs the Voice of the Blessed in a block. Off curve, the evasion helps your finisher get across. I think a card to watch would be Serra Redeemer. People said the same thing about Liliana, the Last Hope.

It's really slow though, that's undeniable, as at best you get this out turn four and fire off it's -6 on turn seven. But this also requires that you build your deck around having 3 cmc or lower and that these get sent to the graveyard just to bring them back. You're better off in this being just token generation, which soldier and mono white has some ways to make them beefy, but it just feels like the -2 is pretty slow since it's one creature and the -6 is only good if you've been board wiped and run low cost creatures, artifacts and enchantments. if the -2 was all tokens or all soldiers that would be really powerful even if they had to make it Until End of Turn and the -6 I feel should have some added benefit of, they all come back with indestructible or something. For something that doesn't really pop off until turn seven at the earliest, it's pretty underwhelming since you have to already be in a losing position with lots of low cost cards in your grave to really take advantage of it. And by Turn Seven if I just slap down Akroma's Memorial or if I had any extra ramp or rocks, I could have that out already with Akroma, Vision of Ixidor which means when I attack my armor of Soldiers who are likely already buffed up by other lords on my field they just get at least +6/+6 from that alone. In token Generation decks where I get to make more tokens anytime I make a token, yeah this is pretty good since it's basically just a free trigger and no one will really focus Elspeth when they'd be more inclined to stop whatever is causing me to get bonus tokens per token. I never forget people always said Oko was good, you just had a loud minority of morons who think anything that doesn't immediately nuke a board is trash tier when the +1 completely neuters all the powerful creatures and artifacts that aren't shrouded. Oh you got a Mana Vault, pfft no you don't. Sheoldred, Elesh Norn, what do you mean you're running an elk deck fool. It was always known to be good, it just took a bunch of idiots losing tournies to that one card for them all to screech loud enough that Oko was banned in every format except commander
