I liked the bit at the end about the Bear , what about boars, and wolves , Alpha and Sows ?

In my opinion boars, warhorses aren't worth taking a Merc spot at all. Since in this game the more allies (including animals) you have the more enemies you face. I find the bear to be the best animal companion. Wolves can be strong if you take them in a 3 so they can utilize the pack crit perk, this raises Base Crit Hit by 50%. They also cause bleeding to non armoured targets. Very squishy and can die fast if focused. Alphas receive 100% crit chance Vs bleeding targets which can make them do alot of damage if they're paired up with an assassin/crocswine or brute with legion hammer. Still fairly squishy though. Crocswine are pretty tanky not as much as the bear but they are less costly then the 🐻. They also come with the added benefit of applying bleeds to amoured and non armoured enemies. Just a super brief description of what they can do, I would avoid boars and warhorses unless you want to roleplay. The others have their uses but optimally it depends on what you find the most fun to play or aesthetically pleasing to use. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

Wolves are the best animals by far hands down. Dont let this guy fool you. They arent squishy, they can howl to gain deflection. (70% dmg decrease). Just don't let them tank multiple people. They have a perk that can heal them substantially when they kill a target. They gain 50% crit chance when you have at least 3 of them. Can even be 3 alphas. They have a lot of movement speed so they can do a lot of legwork to bind archers and knife guys and you can also give them crit collars. Bears eat ridiculous amounts of food and they do almost no damage and just clog up space.

You use Aim for distance or when hitting in between your own units, normally if you aim at an engaged enemy from some distance away behind your own unit, there's a chance of friendly fire, hitting your unit instead of the enemy, with aim that chance goes away, off course it loses value if you're a good player with good positioning.

Make a beast master with 1 bear. Take far right (gain point when next to ally). Second tree take point that commands animals to attack and increases its damage output. 3rd tree take control beasts. Watch for legendary bow (sold by glowing merchants) that causes crit hits any time you shoot the target your animal is engaged with. Upgrade the second ability on the bear (the taunt/fragility) with a brotherhood book. This causes the bear to attack 2 times next time it attacks. Send bear to target melee attack to get it engaged then cast the bears growl. Rush archer up to bear shoot target (get crit with bow perk) plus set up getting valor point due to being next to friend. Use ability to cause bear to attack target it’s engaged with. Causing it to be buffed for 30% damage attack the target plus attack a second time to the same target. Will kill almost anything out there. Bear is weak against units that cause bleed but is king of tanking anything else.

Three things: 1. Barrage is the way to go if you focus your group on ranged attacks and when you're facing enemies with more units than there are in your group. Otherwise it eats up valor points like crazy and doesn't do much. 2. When your group is rather tank focused, you should go for a more aggressive style and pick Recoil Shot for a second attack. Aim is a very good skill for that, since missing shots and hitting your own units can really fuck up relations between them and your hunter. Only hitting a friendly target once can trigger events that will cause either the hunter or the shot character to leave your group entirely if you haven't got enough ressources for the third option at hand and it's only getting worse the more characters get hit by the same archer. Aim prevents that from happening by giving you a 100% chance of hitting your actual target with your next shot. 3. In case you could use a good tank with insane damage output, go for beastmaster and get one or two bears. Bears have a ton of hp and with the right beastmaster skills also do incredible damage (they can easily oneshot light to medium armoured targets on the highest difficulty). They also have a bigger hitbox than your human characters, so you can block paths with them more easily. The downside is their food consumption (over three times as much compared to a human) and that %-based damage (like bleed or bear traps) can fuck them up really quickly. You can of course counter this by having multiple beastmasters with the passive healing ability, which makes a bunch of bears almost unkillable, but considering the food consumption it is probably more efficient to get a bunch of brute-type mercenaries instead.

Excellent write up enjoyed reading it! I definitely agree with recoil shot being a strong contender in a more aggressive setup where you are not waiting for the enemy to come to you. I think that's the great thing about this game multiple playstyles can work and there is no end all meta play style. I love bears in the game they're a great unit I just don't like playing the food mini game with them. 😂 Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

Interesting guide. Thanks for that. I found it quite helpful to combine two archers with Recoil shot and one archer with Barrage (upgraded so it shoots at 4 targets). Then I position my archers, so Barrage covers the main group of the enemy. Next up I fire Recoil shot at the enemies in the barrage area. Recoil shot makes the enemies move causing Barrage to be activated. Very effective - especially with a high critical hit build. In combination with Valorous Victory I get my valor points back enabling me to keep using this tactic. What I like about this is that it enables me to use Barrage proactively as part of taking out the enemy before they can move.

Recoil shot is super good, your archer can shoot twice a row now, late game if you have the epic bow you can one shot two enemies in 1 turn.

I prefer recoil shot abit more in early game when crowd control is limited but mid-late game barrage is king for my playstyle! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

@@Methfu What in the case of a solo archer with adaptive exploration mode on? From my understanding the enemies are less in numbers to mirror your party so it might be that barrage be less effective. Granted that it's still cool as you can have situations specially against other archers where you get two shots on them on their turn, or position close and get a shot on multiple enemies on their turn. But it is more expensive and so you can use it fewer times, specially alone being the only one that can generate points. And while being alone recoil shot may be more useful to easily maintain distance between you and the enemies. May make the battles take longer but also with less hits on you also.

@@Methfu yeah double tap with percision is a fight ender, then take gain valor points from killing. bam bam recover the point used to secure the kill. works like charm. You can also use this shot to knock off two turn heavy attacks, or force people to disengage your troops to let rogues reposition.

Deftness also makes it so you can't hit allies. Usually, I find that to be a non issue anyway, as it's easy enough to just reposition, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I take Valorous victory for the first skill because i can get a minimum of 2 points per round and if i play it right up to 10 points per round(very lucky cases). I also take the skill that doubles range in combination with the unique bow that hits multiple targets (yes it works and yes every enemy hit with that one shot thats further than 6m grants you 2 Rage)

I prefer to take valorous victory on my rangers, they normally have more attacks and also more burst damage to get the killing blows on the enemies. Where as the archers will always be next to teammates for the guaranteed Valor point. Great to see that everyone has different play styles that works! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

Valorous Victory would seem to be the better pick here. In that ghost pack fight, you would have had at least 4 valor points each round, compared to just 1 from valorous support. That doesn't even cover the cost of barrage.

I tried out valorous victory quite abit and I found the archer just wasn't able to burst that well on targets other then unarmoured ones such as the ghost packs or boars etc. I find valorous support to be abit more reliable and it's quite strong now with the new lieutenant reworked skill. Enhanced I have found takes away targeting an ally. At least since i've gotten it, if I a m aiming at an enemy and it also targets ally next to the, if I switch on Aim, the ally is no longer targeted also.

You can use aim to get 100% shots if your shooting through teammates

I get weird behavior from my infantryman when I equip him with the legion bow which has the "shoot order" ability. When I select shoot order, he'll shoot one enemy twice in a row. When I use barrage and spend the two VP for it, he does the exact same behavior as shoot order, just shoots one guy twice, even if a second or third enemy enter the area directly after. I don't get it.

That is strange there must be some sort of overlapping bug with that bow and the barrage skill. Hopefully the developers are working on a fix for it. Have you tried replicating the bug with other bows? I personally haven't come across it myself yet but will look to replicate it next time I stumble upon a legion bow. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

@@Methfu If I get another bow with that skill on it I will test it further, but I ended up selling it for a higher level bow that has the bleed on crit skill which synergized more with my other party members builds.
