Looks like you have a great area to practice for sure. I turn 60 in May and have been flinging arrows and shooting deer for 35 years now. My first time hunting with a bow I shot and missed two deer and was determined! I finally killed my first bow deer my 4th season and haven't looked back. 2023 season I arrowed a decent 8 pt. my first sit of the season. I just got a new bow by Bowtech a couple weeks ago and I am loving it. Cool video sir, best of luck to you on your new journey. Best thing is acquire newer accessories over time. New stabilizer, sight, release, arrows. Definitely invest in a range finder and get your own set of Allen wrenches so you can tinker with your setup

@@whatisarchery for sure bro. You should invest in a morrell target as well. One of those big bullseye ones, I’ve got one in my garage. I probably shot a good 500 arrows and it barely looks like I shot it. $200 last you for a long time
@bigz5262

The most important thing would be to get a decent drop-away rest. A biscuit works but the longer the arrow sits on the rest the more opportunities for torquing, especially for a new shooter. A new release and stabilizer will help too but a sight can wait

Welcome to the sport E, I started my journey in archery at a camp 34 years ago and I still shoot every day. One tip from your video is I saw you draw the bow back without an arrow when you were demonstrating your release, if you accidentally hit the trigger or the loop breaks like on your bow from the 80s, it will dry fire it and likely damage or destroy your bow. Can’t wait to follow you along on your journey, best of luck

hey man! so glad to see you wanting to learn a new sport! i started just like you about 2 years ago, i ended up falling in love with it, enough to get a job as a bow tech for the last 2 years. if you ever need help or have any questions id be more than happy to answer anything you need to know. i can answer questions if you need to diagnose any issues you may be experiencing, sometimes a bows tune can be the issue and not so much yourself. i can also answer any questions on sighting or even tying your own D-Loops and peeps. there is also a lot of safety concerns. like never draw your bow back without an arrow it, they aren't designed to be dry fired like that. the arrow needs to help absorb the energy produced by the cams and limbs. if the arrow isn't there, your limbs could crack or even shatter, your cams as well, crack or fold/tare over. the repair costs would be more than that of the value of the bow. so NEVER draw it without an arrow for any reason. not to mention the damage it could do to you in the process. also, at 60# your bow is lethal and should be treated as such. even with a field point, a well placed, or even misplaced shot could seriously injure or kill. most states require a min of 35-40lbs for large game such as deer/elk for reference. always be aware of what is beyond your target. i see a chain link fence, no animals but still. id pick something with a back drop. also.... cardboard man? what is behind it? you said you wanted to shoot on a budget, if you're shooting into wood or something else that dense you're going to be flying through arrows. that carbon doesn't last for ever, i would be flex testing them arrows every time before i shot em again. the cheapest arrows we sold were 7.99 EA. so that can get pricey quick. also, just incase your guy Cabela's guy didn't tell you. make sure you are shooting the correct SPINE on your arrows for your draw length and weight. if you're 29"+ draw length at 60+lbs (assuming you'll go to 70 one day) you're going to possibly need a stiff ass arrow. like 300-250 spine. (lower spine number means stiffer arrow, less flex. higher means softer, more flex) so be careful of what you buy online, make sure they are rated for the draw weight. I've seen customers bring me in 500 spine arrows wanting to shoot 70lbs and 30 inches of draw. they don't read or just don't know to read, and unless you want to pick carbon shards out of your arm you can buy some rubber horse mat cheap from feed or farm stores. large enough sections of it that you could make a rubber back drop to save some of your arrows lifespans. and for a safer back drop behind your target, you wont shoot through those even in the slightest, id get a machine packed hay bale, place a sheet of horse mat behind it, and that arrow will basically bounce off the mat and stay in the hay bail, super easy to pull out this way too. so less likely to loose field points. anyways good luck buddy! i hope you have an amazing archery journey.

@whatisarchery any time brother! I hope you get the chance to have a successful hunt in the future! I didn't go over sighting but the short and sweet is "Chase the arrow" always aim for center when sighting, don't pin gap off, or aim off target to hit where you want. The arrow is telling you where to move the sight. Start at 20 yards and use your top pin. If you miss high and left that means you need to move the sight housing up and to the left. Do this till you hit center. Now, your sight housing is zeroed to your top pin. You not longer need to move the housing, each pin after will be just an up or down adjustment, moving the pin only. If your housing gets maxed out in any direction left or right, could mean bad tune or rest is in the wrong position. If you max out up or dowb then it could be rest position or peep or even bad tune/timing. If you ever see weird flight in the arrow in the first 20-30 yards like the tail of the arrow kick in one direction. Means either bad tune/timing or rest position. This could happen by wind too though if you're shooting outside, so you'll know better in a control environment like an indoor range. I'd find a local one and shoot there from time to time. Good way to make other Archery friends and ask people questions or for tips. I've never met anyone that wasn't helpful on my journey! Good luck again!

@@whatisarchery I would tell ya also go watch some of arrows up KZbin as well, one other thing that will help you as a hunter is to find a local 3d target shoot, it will teach you how to aim and shoot at a replica of a real animal, also if you want to practice and get really good get you some small game heads and try to go shoot some squirrels on the ground not in the tree so you can find your arrows,but they will teach you hunting and you will have multiple opportunities every time you go out, as well as they are great practice on how to gut clean and cook your kill, PS go find some public land and sit in one spot and you will have more opportunities than walking around.
