Hey Nu. I've been binging your videos ever since I joined a local archery club. This is one of your best. I've been constantly forgetting which direction to make adjustments, and the "chase the arrow" is a great rule of thumb. Your demonstrations of groupings and how to look at them for consistency and tendencies are great, and even though at my club we shoot sets of 3 and not 6, I'm going to keep your advice in mind.

Nu, I'm very new to archery but I have to thank you for your videos. Watching them has really given me the foundation and more so, the confidence to get myself to the range to practice. Please keep making videos, they're very helpful and I (as I'm sure many others do) enjoy spending time listening to your tips. Thanks for everything. Edit: I just noticed you play WT! You're the best!

Thank you for the tons of information you offer on this channel! I would be interested in an explanation of the aiming process refering to the shot cycle! When I started to shoot the Olympic Recurve Bow I had no Idea about my aiming process though I was very familiar to the ways of adjustment, string alignment, etc. The problem I found was that I startet aiming too late in the shot cycle. I focused on my sight picture only when I reached my final anchoring position. As a result, my sight always stayed one or two rings beneath the gold and I had to rise my bowarm to come back to center which caused fatigue and elongated the transfer phase (which caused more fatigue). I did a lot of research on training methods and -theories but I haven´t found any information that clarified the process of aiming. The potential end of my journey was an experienced shooter at a tournament who simply said: "You must start aiming when you rise the bow! Bring the aperture to a precise located spot above the gold before you start your loading phase every single time! When you reach the anchor, your sight has to stay exactly on the gold and float around it. If it´s not: Adjust your pre-aiming spot at the next shot! When you are in the anchor position your focus is just on the shot execution and nothing else!" After this, I started to interview more experienced shooters about this issue and most of them do it the same way! So, I wonder why there are so many unclear statements about the proper aiming? It would be great to see a video about this issues! Greetings from Germany Shoot straight and keep up the good work!!!

If no sight and your bow isn't tilled (most likely isn't), try shooting three under to bring the arrow closer to your eye. I have been shooting this way for about a month now and have good success with it at 15m and 20m but my target is low to the ground and I have to aim over the box once I get farther away so I went out to get a sight today. Cheap one that got a few poor reviews but I like it. It does the job quite well and these videos have helped a ton. With no sight and three under, your arrow is your sight. For me, I tall at 6'4 (192cm) with long arms so I get a pretty strong shot just pulling back to until my thumb his my anchor point which is basically on the line of your maxilla and zygomatic (cheek bone). Anatomically, this may vary on different individuals. I am sure you have it figured out by name since this was three months ago and need no help from a noob. Just sharing what has helped me. Now I have to find a new anchor point but I get a better, more powerful shot too. Good thing I bought those longer arrows. My regular practice ones are WAY too short for me to get a good full draw with a sight, but perfect for no sight.

It will be great if you make a video about aiming. Both eye open, one eye open, focusing on sight or focusing on target... there are many information but not particularly about archery. Thanks!
@mackemforever8 жыл бұрын
As he doesn't have a video I'll explain a few things. If you are shooting with your dominant eye then shooting with both eyes open is very easy and there is no negative to doing so. It is slightly trickier if you shoot with your weak eye, or in other words are cross-dominant, because with both eyes open your non-aiming eye will sometimes steal focus however this can be overcome through practice. There are a huge number of compound archers who are cross-dominant but shoot with both eyes open that prove it. As for where you should be focussing, you should never be focussing on your sight instead of the target. If you focus on your sight instead of the target you will find that it feels like you are much less steady at full draw because you see every single bit of sight movement. Focus on the target instead and let your sight fade into the background and you don't notice these little movements and so it is much easier to concentrate on simply executing a shot with good technique instead of trying to keep your sight perfectly still.

Thanks a lot. It can give me a good starting point. I'm taking archery course for 1,5 months now. and already in love. I got my bow too (hoyt horizon riser, cartel fantom limbs 28#) I am normally right handed person in daily life, but my dominant eye is left. according my dominant eye, I'm using left handed bow. I don't have any discomfort with drawing with left hand. but whenever i try both eye open, i cant make proper shot. I start with one eye first and open other one during shot, still not feel natural or comfortable. I don't feel any problem with single eye aiming. Is it okay if i keep going with single eye aiming? Also strangely my instructor asked me to focus on sight instead of target. Maybe i misunderstand or he tell me that by mistake. ( I'm Turkish, Living in Hong Kong and my coach is Chinese. So both of us use English to communicate which our second language) I cant do proper shot by focusing on target. Anyway, Thanks a lot for your time. I appreciate.

sir my son is 12 year old he can easily shoot at 20 mts and 30 mts draw weight of his limbs is 34 but he cann't shoot at 50 mts,this is because of draw weight or lake of practice on 50 mts,please tell.
@sarahallaway98017 жыл бұрын
Jatin Sharma I shoot with 30# limbs and can reach 70m just fine. If your son can't hit 50m with a higher poundage bow, it probably means that he just needs more practice 😊
@bluebow687 жыл бұрын
Jatin Sharma..Do you mean his arrows cannot reach 50mtrs?..or that he just can't hit the target.However..It could be a number of factors..1/ He can't hold the bow steady-hence missing the smaller target in his sites.If this is so,his poundage is too high to hold steady..2/His arrows won't reach the target..?..If so,the arrows are too heavy..Carbon or carbon alloy are thinner and lighter..But 34lbs of draw weight should easily reach 50mtrs, with 34lbs..given his arrow length is a reasonable length..In time,his draw length will increase;therefore more weight behind the arrows..Hope this helps..

i was training the other day and i made a BIG mistake: decided to switch to the outside target, i change my sight and my shot goes very high but still in the top of the target, adjust sight by moving the sight DOWN, and BAM i shoot and the arrow goes for the stars haha, luckly it landed in the grass without burying itself

my biggest problem is the further I get out (usually past 40m) my sights have to get lower and lower and then it gets so close the arrow might hit the sight itself.... what to do? It can be set fairly far out, or close, but even when I do that I still have this problem... :0

Hello! I'm an intermediate shooter, but I just started out with sights. I'm a little bit confused about shooting from a long distance where you have to compensate for gravity, therefore, having to shoot higher than usual. For example, if my arrows are landing very low, shouldn't the sight be very low as well? If you have to aim high, wouldn't you need to have the sight UNDER the arrow? Is this possible? I'm confused because that doesn't seem like something people do. Help please!

Do you align the string when shooting? I been shooting with the string on tip of nose but rarely or never see the string and my group is decent, but when i do see the blurred string and put it next to the sight pin or riser the shots go everywhere, should i work on string alignment?
@NUSensei6 жыл бұрын
String alignment is what tells you that you're consistently positioning the sight. Consciously thinking about it can put you off. However, you need a way to make sure that you're aligning the same each time.
@annoyingoniguy24916 жыл бұрын
NUSensei so as long as i can keep the same alignment i can probably get away at least for now without worrying about the string, as i find having the string on tip of nose is working atm, but in ya opinion would you say i should practice lining the string the riser or side of pin? Sorry for the bombarding of questions, thank you
@NUSensei6 жыл бұрын
The thing with the nose on the string is that it gives you a physical reference point. However, you can have your nose on the string and have your head incorrectly aligned. You can still shift the grip left and right with the string on the nose.

I have a question about chasing the arrow. You said that if the shot goes left, you adjust to the left. Does the same principle apply if you don't use a sight?
@NUSensei8 жыл бұрын
No, this is only for sights. If you aren't using the sight, you need to follow the obvious advice: if you are shooting too far to the left, then you need to aim to the right. "Chase the arrow" only applies to the sight because the sight adjustment makes the archer compensate in the correct direction.

Thank you so much for the video. It’s very helpful!
@hocuspocus32566 жыл бұрын
So, since arrows are much slower projectiles than a bullet, the Kentucky-Windage style of aim-adjustment is a repeatable practice for archery? In rifles, center-mass aiming and tight adjustment of the sites is key because of the speed of the projectile. Doesn't seem to be the case with archery. I'm asking this because I am a beginner switching from rifle hunting (millions of rounds down range in practice, barely any game) to archery hunting (much better seasons). I have rifle habits that I need to separate from my archery practice so if anyone can help me switch my thinking with a few tips or a youtube video I can watch - much appreciated.

You should sight for closer distances first. This allows you to estimate the sight marking needed for 70m.

What's a good entry level youth bow thats about #20-25 and at about 100-150$
@soloxcan7 жыл бұрын
infitec challenger, cartel fantom, SF (somethings) bows for $100 are wooden or plastic and are not good starting bows, they are used for training classes because people don't car and throw them. You can buy a metal riser like the ones listed and keep it forever, just change limbs, sight, plunger

for left and right adjustment, is it better to adjust sight or plunger?
@NUSensei8 жыл бұрын
Sight. Adjusting the plunger has a similar effect. However, the plunger is really for fine adjustment for tuning. Using your plunger to adjust means you are changing your tune, while the sight is a simpler adjustment of your reference point. Sighting with the plunger can be done, but it seems to be less intuitive.

I've been doing archery for 3 years.. When its starts 50 and 70 meters I cannot find my right sight yet always miss target.. I already tune to add poundange on my bow but still didn't get any a good result.Can you please give another opinion how to find sight in long range distance?
@NUSensei7 жыл бұрын
Apart from draw weight, you might also have to look at what arrows you are using. If you can't get your sight on target, consider moving the vertical sight bar so that you have more space to move down.

People move their sights after one shot cause they see people at the olympics doing it. Well, those people got to the olympics because they almost never, ever mess up a shot. So if the arrow doesn't go where it's supposed to, it's almost always the sight. And when they do mess up, they are disciplined enough to know that they messed up.
