Is it better to learn with a recurve or compund as far as skill is concerned?

Sensei, would you say this is better than the black hunter? (Still consider myself a newb lol) I’ve mentioned prior but it’s for small game hunting. I don’t know which is better between the two, but I got the noble cause of your review so figured I’d ask

I'd love to have the opportunity to shoot more, but we are limited to sessions on a school field on Saturday mornings (and Wednesday evenings in the summer). In the UK, rain stops play sometimes, and it can be blooming cold in Winter. A Frostbite doesn't just describe the round.

I'm inclined to agree with John Demmer on this one. They've ripped off other companies. Everyone knows what they do. The howls of indignation ring a bit hollow.

I am new to archery the so stuff I am saying is probably not right but anyway. I think Khatra was needed because not all arrows were completely straight in the past. So by using Khatra it was less likely that the curved side of your arrow would hit the bow while shooting, hence the chance of having bad arrow flight was minimized. Let me know if I am talking out of my ***

You all know that companies like Sanlida have no respect for manufactures intellectual property, you mention them outright copying designs, yet you still promote and reviewed their products. Why would you expect them to show you any more respect than manufactures, seems you are only worried when it effects you directly.
@NUSensei3 күн бұрын
It doesn't affect me and I'm not worried. I'm not affiliated with Sanlida. I review Sanlida like I do with any other product that is sent to me, that I borrow, or I buy on my own. I don't promote Sanlida over any other brand. Consumers are free to make their own judgement over whether or not they want to buy from Chinese companies.

When it comes to the semantics of "traditional archery" in America the term "Traditional Archery" is in response to the Compound bow in the 1980s. Before the compound bow it was just "archery" but then there had to be something to market and "bring back to tradition" so therefore Bowhunter and various other hunting magazines started to give single string archery the "traditional moniker". I have never really liked it because I think its a silly way of defining something since in the hunting community the word "tradition" is sacred to hunters regardless of what tool they are using. But I also think things like "barebow"are silly because barebow is just a stripped down olympic recurve while "trad" bows are truly "bare- bows". I prefer to go with "trad" as a sort of light jab at traditional just because I dislike the phrase or Ill call it single string or stickbow. I like stickbow because that sort of thing encompasses every thing that is not barebow and more complicated. However I typically call Asiatic and English Longbows "Historical Archery" and I call modern Traditional Archery " Modern Trad Archery". Some people do not like it when I say something is historical archery because they argue for "Crossbows" but I guess if you are lugging around a traditional crossbow with a rack loader then by all means rub some dirt on it.

I am playing with compound bow that is proedge and going through target panic. Whenever, I play archery I have problem in keeping aim on the target and I tried to lift my bow from the bottom of target and before reaching my left hand on the target I automatically release the arrow and it's been very difficult to over come. So please help me to your appropriate classes.

Would thumb draw slightly increase Power because there is less string being grabbed? If you look at any Crossbow, it's just a little notch holding the string. Compound Bows also have a little loop allowing for a Modern Thumb Draw and other devices such as Trigger Releases. So I figure Thumb Draw is one of the most efficient Techniques.

Great content once again. Instead of buying new entry level or intermediate equipment consider buying from the vast second hand market. My favourite recurve set up (Wiawis Nano Max riser, Win&Win Inno Power limbs, top of the range about 10 years ago) cost me much less than new inferior items would have.

I’m a lifelong Martial Artist that has a back ground in parkour and gymnastics when I picked up Bow I was able to move shoot and roll later I found out that they coined it Running Archery 🏹
@NUSensei5 күн бұрын
It's actually not called that. "Run archery" is a like the biathlon in winter sports, but on foot and with a bow rather than skis and rifle. "Running archery" is uniquely what Charlie calls his channel, but it's not a recognised discipline. It would be more recognised as stunt shooting.

Hi, so I am almost 6 feet tall and I bought my first Sanlida Noble Recurve at 68”. In my first class, the instructor told me that I couldn’t bring that bow and that it would be too dangerous, but I had been shooting it on my own for a couple weeks without any problems. Is it really dangerous? She said she doesn’t know how it hadn’t exploded yet.

This is awesome to see. My grandpa used a thumb draw on right handed longbow, with a 60# draw, and thats exactly how he did it...he would hook the string just a bit lower below the arrow so it didnt knock the arrow off the shelf. He had no other choice but to shoot that way since he had most of right hand shot off in WW2, and only had a thumb and index finger on his right hand. While that was his only option to shoot if he wanted to shoot right handed, he always swore that it allowed him to have a smoother release than a Mediterranean draw. Im not sure how true that is, but i know that he was VERY accurate. He could shoot plates out of the air, and it wasnt uncommon for him to take down deer from beyond 30 yards.

After reviewing both your channel and of Jakes, I bought the Hoyt satori instead. I could not support a company that steals from others no matter how much cheaper the product is.

One of the best videos ive seen so far on the topic. And as someone who has been practicing archery since i was 10 years old (about 30 years) and is an "instinctive" traditional archer (but i have used sights and compound bows etc at different points in time) i would agree 100% with your assessment here. Although i really dont get too caught up on the semantics of it all, and what exactly constitutes "instinctive" or "traditional" archery. If you are using any kind of bow, without any sights, stabilizers, etc..to me, thats traditional. Whether you are thinking about aiming, or not thinking about it, your brain IS infact actively aiming, and how thats done is irrelevant if it works for you. I think that if you went back in time to the Battle Of Agincourt, and you picked the brain of the archers there, you would find that many of them most likely knew all about things like "gap shooting" or "string walking" (although they probably didnt call them by those terms) or actively aiming using the arrow or arrow tip. And if you went back even further, a good 5000 years, I think that you most likely find the same. And if you showed either of them how to make and use a bowsight, they almost all of them would most likely readily accept bowsights as a great thing and a valid part of archery.

All the other hunters shoot compound. That is close to being the best reason to buy a recurve. I also have the idea, that if you learn to shoot recurve, you can more or less shoot any bow. I'll only shoot for fun I think :-)

One trick I use to stop target panic is to aim at the bottom of the target, hold, then the top of the target, hold, then on the target, hold and release. It's just something I made up for myself.

common sense is rare these days NUSensei, you can not under estimate what people can do when left to their own devices. Everything you talk about in this video don't seem objectionable to me. Personally i like as much space around me when shooting as possible, but I have a back yard range so that is not an issue for the most part. Another thing people need to understand they are a guest of the range, play by the rules or play somewhere else, very simple.

You can train your non dominant eye with a lot of practice I did it with my pistols and now a bow I shoot with both eyes open. It was very difficult at first but now it’s automatic to use my non dominant eye to aim
