So 20-23 years ago my brothers and I were bending maple limbs with baling twine to shoot reeds at each other. Follow the natural progression of random hand-me-down bows and starting a summer with 5 aluminum arrows that had to last until my birthday to replace any that broke. I ended up keeping a bow around all the time, had an indoor bow range my college landlord didn't know about and travelled for work w a 70's era Bear TD rolled up in my sleeping bag for weekend hunts. Now I've been faced with trying to explain to my little girl how to do something I gradually put together unconsciously over the years. I have really enjoyed the videos so far. I've been picking up better tips and techniques for myself and learning ways to carry that over to my daughter's instinctive lessons. She enjoys seeing another young girl shooting with her father as well. Thank you very much for the excellent videos and instruction, we consider your channel our favorite!

Jeff, very sorry to hear about your injury. For anyone that would suck; for an archer, that super-sucks. That said, thank you so much for your very instructive videos. We've missed your postings. Even without you shooting, you still have super helpful instruction to share. Please keep them coming. Perhaps you can take a past clip to show a specific point -- if need -- while you are mending. Thank you very much. You are one of the best instructors on KZbin. You have helped me the most of everyone. So nice to see you post again. Warm regards.

you make teaching a complex subject as simple and natural as you do shooting a bow. Gifted. Thank you for your videos, the time taken to make them and the thought put into them. If you ever decide to come up with a instructional DVD with a sequenced set of tutorials and practice drills or some such, count me in!

I love it when I come up with some crazy idea to implement during my weekend practice hours and then, days later, amazing people like Jeff put up videos teaching the exact same thing. It makes me feel really confident that I'm heading down the right path even though I'm only a "self-taught" archer. (err quotes because I've also learned a lot from these videos)

Jeff, you better sleep with one eye open so Lucy doesn't make off with your new bow! Especially since you clipped her Au Sable! OTOH, It might actually be a good thing to get Lucy into doing some bow reviews. Collectively, you have a significant number of bows to use for benchmarking and general comparison. I too have been considering the Cottonmouth. Anyway, great video and tip as always. Thank you.

Jeff, always enjoy watching you video's. Hope you get better soon. Would you be able to shoot a low poundage bow?Maybe a 25 lb. bow to practice form.
@JeffKavanagh9 жыл бұрын
+david barrett Not any more. I shot maybe about a half a dozen arrows to warm up with and then make the Dude Perfect Challenge video over Christmas time with my 45# Minuteman takedown bow and I didn't feel too badly. It hurt a bit but I didn't push it. My shoulder is not doing well at all right now though because just raising my arm up now is too painful. I am just going to have to wait until it's fixed.

So sorry to hear about your shoulder, Jeff. Hope you will get back to shooting soon. Do you have any good ideas on what to use for outdoor targets...maybe a video on how to use some simple ideas for practice? I would be interested what works in your experience...I know you have a wonderful barn to practice in, but what about outdoors? I have spring fever and am new to archery...what should I invest in? Thanks, Cindy
@SeadartVSG9 жыл бұрын
+c nevett You really don't need to invest in anything. Find a large cardboard shipping box say about 20 by 30 and fill it up with flat cardboard from other boxes . Compress it tightly and fill the box full, tape it shut with duct tape. This will be heavy enough it won't tip over and it will stop an arrow even from a powerful bow. You can make your own simple wood frame to elevate it or use a straw bale or dirt pile to elevate it.
@JeffKavanagh9 жыл бұрын
+c nevett Cindy SeadarVSG beat me to it. That advice is great and costs nothing and it will stand up to a lot of abuse. You can also fill it full of old rags, sheets and things like that.
@extraordinaaron9 жыл бұрын
+SeadartVSG or if you are lucky there might be a place you can get a bale of straw for pretty cheap. one bale will work well up to a 30lb bow and can get shot at a good thousand times before they start sailing through. cardboard will take more abuse though.

Jeff, have come to value your opinion very much. Could you compare the cottonmouth grip to a Howatt grip, please? My Howatt is a well made bow,buuut... I don't seem to get on well with the round "ball" type of grip. I shoot low, more squared grips better for some reason. Had my eye on the cottonmouth since Jim's first vid on it, but don't want to spend the money to find out it doesn't suit me well in the grip. Thanks for your help, sir.

Dear Jeff I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you will recover soon. Hopefully I do not come off sounding selfish and self-serving May I ask you if the injury was archery related? If so please let me know how it happened so I too can prevent it from happening. I don't shoot heavy poundage bow but it is still up there. And I don't shoot as often as I used to. Best regard. Hope you will get better soon

Hi, I am wandering if you could answer a question for me? I have a martin panther and a martin jaguar both at 30 #. My question is I am going to order a few good arrows. My draw length is 27 and 1 half inch. I do a lot of back yard shooting. What spin and arrow length should I order? Thank you in advance.
@michaelhaworth83179 жыл бұрын
Great work as always. I have learned quite a bit watching your videos. What size aluminum arrows would you recommend for a Kodiak Magnum 55# with my 27" draw length and I plan on using 150 gr bear broad heads? I presently shoot GT 5575's, but have been wanting to start shooting aluminum. Thanks for your videos and any help.

@WV5918 жыл бұрын
that explains why my form doesn't improve. always shooting at low on ground targets. being over-bowed doesn't help either.
@davidrivera29798 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, I'm new into the sport and have a question about your choice of personal specs on the kodiak takedown bow. Since you seem above average height why did you choose the number one limbs as opposed to the three which would have given you a slightly longer bow length? Also when you draw back the string do you wait until your forward arm is fully extended and start your draw or is there a slight push forward At same time as you start to draw back the string? I really enjoy watching your videos Thank you David kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6ucnotua71gq7c

I wanted a shorter bow, 56" for hunting on the ground. I tend to like a shorter bow myself as well because of the maneuverability it gives me. I have been shooting for 43 years and have bows from 48" to 70" in length. Length doesn't really matter to me. Also I do a "push/pull" when I draw the bow.

Hi Jeff, I have a general question about archery, I am English but living in Spain, you videos were the first I ever watched for useful tips, it really helped. I wanted to know something about archery competitions in America. For Hunting fake animals with a bow, is it considered a sport where you can get sponsored or there are decent prices to be won? Because in Spain they just give you a pat on the back :D haha Thank you Adam :D

+AW Memory From where I live I would have to travel some pretty large distances to shoot so have never taken part in any competitions myself. I don;t live in an area where archery has any popularity at all.
@awmemory55469 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get that here too, people look at me in amazement when i say I am an archer. Have you ever been out of the US? The tournament i did was very funny, because for me it was like golf with a bow and arrow XD you have different distances for people and your walking through the woods like its a golf course. I really would like to see archery become more popular, I like archery in the olympics, but this has a good feel about it. its like archery/ sniping but with a hint of hunting. If I was richer I would try to make spectators come or at least get it as a competition with interest. Anyway I look forward to another good video to correct my small errors :D
