Hey Steven I wanted to thank you for all your reviews and advices. I just bought my first compound bow last week and I'm loving it, it's a PSE stinger max and I must say that you played a big role in my choice. Hope you'll be able to continue making videos and that everything will be alright with your business and your personal life. Much love from France.

I've spoke to a few people who've shot Prime bows and they've all mentioned they've had to shorten their draw length by maybe half an inch on Prime bows compared to other bows to get the let off just right which I find rather interesting. Must be the way Prime do their cam system. I know their new Black Series has the draw length module built into the cam (which is fantastic) compared to their older bows that have draw length specific cams (nightmare, especially if you don't have access to a bow press). Would love to try one myself. Another good video, keep em coming Steve🙌

Correct, several people (including me) would go a draw length longer and short stop the cams. It helped to increase holding weight and of course decrease the valley.

I've owned a Centergy 33", a CT-5 35" & a Nexus 4 34". The CT-5 was a speed demon with a heavier arrow but the draw cycle was similar to the Centergy bow u did the review on. The Centergy & Nexus 4 were a dream. The grip & hold were both top notch in their performance. The Centergy was the top performing bow in a nock travel test done by a independent guy who was a retired engineer. 😳 I'm sure as a businesses standpoint that the new Inline bows that Prime has put out will be easier to tune but I haven't had any problems with the 3 Prime bows I have owned. I can't say the same for the Evolve 35 that I no longer shoot. It had an incredible draw cycle but the way it held on target & the grip were substandard. Especially the grip. Not repeatable like the Prime in any realm. The Prime is very repeatable with very little shock while others have too many left or right arrow outliers.

Always been a big fan on the Primes, especially the older STX series. Great thing about this quad track system it means half twists in the string is very viable unlike other bows where a half twist can cause the serving to split. Having said that the PSE Live Wire strings take a half twist really well.

Mathews also take twists very well without worry on the serving. I would always play about with the cables/string on my Mathews bows to get the draw length and timing just right for me

There is definitely something wrong with that bow... my Prime ONE STX39 at 59 pounds...feels like 35 pounds...and the draw cycle is smooth as silk.

The CT9/CT5 and Black Series 9/5 are the real deal from Prime in terms of good target/3D/hunting bows: superb finish, widest parallel limbs in the market and (in the case of the Black Series) finally adjustable in draw length without the need of extra modules or a bench. Plus they have fast attach for the Sherpa quivers. To my knownledge both the Black 5 and the EVO NXT 35 are very comparable: similar weigth, neutral center mass, almost no vibration and they are really fast. Main difference seems to be that the NXT stacks most of the draw weigth at the beginning of the draw cycle, whereas in the Black Series they stack mostly at the mid-end (before the valley): Anders Faugstad had a phenomenal year in 2019 competing with the CT9 (now uses a Supra Focus XL). I would say that amongst the 2020 releases the Elite and Prime new bows were the ones which innovated the most. But yeah, not sure about the Centergy: looks nice, but they are already discontinued. Anyway: the problem with a bow which is hard to draw is not to open it, but what happens if you derrail the arrow and need to down the string without dryfiring it or tearing your arm from the socket.

Steven, i just bought this same bow for $325 mint here in the states. Something is not right with your bow. My 60# is smooth and easy draw. Not sure why yours slow. Something just not right with that Prime. I would investigate. New black 9 model is a lot cheaper here $1299 in states. Don't pass up Prime. They also give free strings for life.

Pretty sure someone buggered the string change and now it's over flexed and way out of time. 100% agree probably the best finish of any company.

When it comes to a painted finish, nothing beats a Prime. Their paint Trumps all other brands. That is an old bow- try shooting a Black 9. I have one and they are very nice. Draw lengths and let offs can be adjusted in seconds and it’s very smooth and stable

You should look at new Prime Black line. Rotating modules and you have same cams for 31, 33, 35 and 39" ATA bows.

@b tamp I still shoot CT9, tried Black 9 and it felt smoother than CT9. Rotating module should help with perfect holding weight/DL, on CT9 I would love to have bit more holding weight. CT9 and Black 9 have better draw cycle than PSE Focus or Shootdown.

ObelixCMM I think it depends on how you have it set up and what you like. I have a Black 5 and a Shootdown and think the PSE is a bit easier for me to draw, pound for pound and a bit smoother transition to the valley. That said, they aren’t set up with the same let off. Not quite, anyway. I prefer the TrX40 with V mods over either, by quite a long way.

Great review Steven!!! Wow I cannot believe how rough that draw cycle was at 60 lbs! I've wanted to try a prime but I prefer a split limb over a solid limb. Just a personal preference but I'll stick with my traverse and my prodegy 🏹🏹🏹

Stephen, i sense the bow is out of timing. Seems like the bottom bow reaches late. Could explain the off draw and shot feel Check if the cables are touching the inner cams during the draw. Looks it at 21.20. Latest Black series dont have this problem
@magnusedstrom78
@magnusedstrom78 3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree that the cableposts are a bit fidgety, however you don't need to mess with them to get the peep sight set right as the string is yoked and the posts for that is on the outside of the cams and easilly accessed. The drawstops are most likely not set correctly for the DL mod. The valley should not be that long. Interesting that the speed is on par with the reckoning 38 however this one you consider to be "slow" You need to review the black 9, a different beast altogether. The STX 39 in my opinion was a better platform.

Look up he new Prime Black and last year's CT series. Prime is one of the best bows out there. There must have been something off with that one for you not to be able to draw at 60#. I have both the CT-9 and Black-9 and the draw cycle is one of the smoothest ever. The bows also hold very well and have the least amount of torque throughout the entire draw cycle than any other bow on the market.

I shot the CT3 and CT9 at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg Pennsylvania in 2018, and the draw cycles on those bows (as compared to my Evolve 35 at 60# with LL Mods) were atrocious. I let out an audible groan as I drew them for the first time. They seem to peak right off of brace, taper off slightly, and then humped and dumped into the valley. It's a very stiff draw cycle with no payoff in the form of added speed.
@josephtreadlightly5686

I agree on the CT-5 draw cycle. Shooting from up in a 🌳 that last inch or so was a killer. But I shot the bow very welled & that bow along with the Centergy & Nexus 4 tuned very well. I think it has to do with that Prime grip fits my hand naturally & the arrows I made from scratch had just the right spine for the bow. That grip on the Evolve 35 as well as it drew was the only thing repeatable on that bow, for ME. It might have something to also do with the center of the bow being @ the pivot point of your hand ➕ the same could be said for my custom takedown recurve which has the same grip as the Prime.

Whoever re-strung it didn't know how to string it properly. The yokes have too little twist (none on the 'loose' cable), and the main string has too much. You can see the yokes twisting as it's drawn. Take a twist out of the main string, add twists to the yoke cables on the side in the direction they will turn (betting counter-clockwise once you take a twist out of the main string). Get it tuned up and that draw will improve considerably. It'll still kick forward down low due to the limbs, but at least it'll draw smooth.

Hunting primes typically bottom 5 lbs higher than what they are rated for. Its possible it was at 65 lbs before you dropped the weight.

It's missing a spoke I think you saw it at 2:00 or I could be wrong looks like both are missing and I'll add I'd put that on a draw board it doesnt make any sense you cant draw a 60 lbs bow considering I've seen a video of you drawing a pse full throttle I'd imagen that being the most aggressive draw cycle

So why is one 60 pound bow easier to draw than another 60 pound bow? Seems like 60 pounds ought to be 60 pounds.

Some bows feel stiffer in general than others and draw force curves vary. One bow may suit the biomechanics of a given archer’s draw better or worse than another. That said, the differences should not be so radical as to make one easy to draw and another impossible. That’s definitely odd. I have a Black 5, TRX40 and a Shootdown, all at 60 and they feel very similar in terms of overall ‘difficulty’ although they have differences in their draw cycles.

We had bowtech in today one of my staff cant draw some 60#. But he drew the 70#. This peaked late so making it hard to draw basically not my strong point in the draw cycle. But yes 60 should but it's not.

0% chance that's 60lbs. Draw cycle can only change the perception of weight so much. If you can normally struggle shoot 70lbs, then this bow is probably more like 75lbs. Something is waaaay out of spec. You should check the ATA, could be 38 lol.
