Arches National Park Without the Crowds! (SUV Camping/Vanlife Adventures)

In this video I head into an incredibly crowded national park but spend hours hiking, exploring, and seeing wonderful things without seeing another soul. This is Arches National Park off the beaten path.

go to arches in the off season and in the mornings. the throngs don't arrive until 9:30 or so. then just avoid the popular spots as much as possible. the NP's are more crowded than even but Arches is huge and laid out nicely so you can avoid crowds

I have been to Moab and Arches on 4 occasions. I enjoy the view of the rocks as they seem to light up at sunset. I enjoyed the narrow arch in the video. When in Moab I camp at the Hampton Inn.

We first went to Moab about 9 yrs ago and go back every year. We just wish we had found out how awesome it is long before we did. We are not young and our ability to hike far is not good but we use our Jeep to get into some beautiful places. We always go mid to late Sept and be there during the week days. Crowds arent that bad then and its cooler. Thanks for your video of 2 places we may never get to see in person....

That tunnel is really neat! My kids and I made a brief stop at Arches in August. We had limited time so I was worried about lines at the entrance but we arrived early enough in the day it wasn’t a problem. Someday I hope to make it back when we can spend several days in the area.

Arches is wonderful and I loved your video. I was lucky enough to camp in their campground before you had to have reservations. It was all serendipity. One of the best camping times I've had in 25 years of camping in New Mexico, where I live, and in Colorado and Utah. Next time I'm up that way I will hike to, at least, the tunnel. Thank you. I loved that you didn't talk the entire time and when you did talk it was good comments and information. The photography put me right back there, sights and sounds and smells.

That was really cool! On our trip in the USA we only spend a couple of days in Utah, so we did Zion and Bryce Canyon - but there was so much more to see and do! We need to come back another time!

The Green River road, (dirt road) from green river utah to the Great Gallery pictographs in Horseshoe Canyon, and many other amazing desert sights and marvels, is a fantastic road to explore. You can go down the Flint Trail (high clearance 4WD) to the Maze District of Canyonlands N.P., but one needs to be fully prepared for remote travel.

Hi Tristan, Moab and surrounding areas were so quiet and uncommercialised during the early 1990's. So different today, its lost a lot of its charm for me. I used to regularly buy books from The Back of Beyond bookstore, which has thrived over the years since. That's where I first got aqainted to Edward Abbey. I've since obtained all he wrote. That very narrow Arch reminded me of Landscape Arch that I last hiked under in 1994. As always, love your videos... reminding me of such great trips in the four corners area I have made. Oldtimer Englishman now exploring from my armchair.

You Easterners are all the same. I know because I used to be one about 40 years ago. You think there has to be trees everywhere to be beautiful, but once you spend a little more time in the desert south west, it kind of grows on you. I think that just like you wanting to climb to the highest point in all(?) of the states, you should film a video of visiting ALL of the over two thousand arches in the park! Climbed half dome 9 years ago. It was a wed afternoon in June. At least a couple hundred people.

I've climbed Half Dome three times, and I think a couple of times I've gotten there early enough that there were only a handful of us on top. But the third time, yeah, the cables section was basically a solid line of people. Not fun!

Went to Arches 3 times in the early 70s. No wait at the entrance. But the Giant RVs were just getting popular and they would hog the view sites at the only and very small camp site. And they would party into the early hours. I only had my VW and a tent and I was looked on some very strange person. Also, I you said the RV folks NEVER left the trail. In fact I don't think they left the camp site. I would spend the entire day hiking and rarely saw anyone. Even with the small crowds you still had to get to Delicate Arch VERY early to avoid the crowds. On my last visit the park rangers told us to watch out for flash floods. Two old ladies ignored the ranger's warning and just started across the dry creek bed and then came the water. They started screaming and asking for help. Everyone told them to keep walking across the creek. But they just froze and kept screaming. In the end about a dozen of us took a chance and went the 3 feet into the creek and pulled the ladies out. That's right THREE FEET. That is why I remember this story. Three Feet. The very last time I decided to visit Arches was in '79 and the line of cars was worse than what you showed. I turned around and have never been back.

Next fall I want to take a week or two and do all of the big parks in Utah. I prefer hitting the big parks in the off season. Cooler weather is nicer for hiking, no crowds in the way, unique photos compared to all of the shots that come from summer color and light. I recently did Zion in the snow and it was like a whole new experience. I like to get to the parks really early to do the easy stuff that I want to see before the crowd, then hit the harder trails to escape the crowds rolling in by lunch time.
