They're one of the bands that "If you like one album, you'll like all of them" so very difficult to rank but my 3 three favorites would be; - The Light-Devouring Darkness (I love the rehearsal room/live album production on this, it is very strong from start to end unlike the debut IMO) - The Apocalyptic Triumphator - The Luciferian Crown It only takes 3 hours to listen to the 5 main albums, so I would urge everyone to listen to them in chronological order to see what Archgoat is all about!

Light Devouring Darkness is my favorite Archgoat album with the new one being right up with it. That being said all of their albums are top tier quality they're one of my favorite bands

Archgoat is arguably my all time favorite black metal band, alongside Inquisition! They are also my all time favorite death metal band, alongside Necros Christos and Nile!

One thing I always enjoyed about archgoat is that they have their own sound. The term less is more is what I use with them and also I enjoy the reactions when people ask me recommendations and I usually say archgoat where they say it’s too heavy for them.

Love all. Avoiding deep genre definitions, I would just say that Archgoat performing live is one of the experiences you always enjoy. As for me, some blues lines can be heard in those slow-tempo parts, whether it is black, or death, or whatever one-of-a-kind metal music

Heavenly Vulva and All Christianity Ends get lots of spins here, I have listened to the Archgoat full-lengths (at least the first 3) too much, so I'm a bit burnt out with the albums, but the EP's are short and have excellent material. Also good critique on the use of intros, I think there's a few that get used more than once through out their discography, but if that is the only thing worth complaining about, it goes to show the quality of actual metal here!

Reliability of bands is something I've come to appreciate as I've got older. Archgoat are, as you say, reliable, somewhat like bands such as Clandestine Blaze or Revenge. You may get small variations in what they do, but no so much as to completely capsize the whole caboodle, kind of like in 2000 when Mayhem fans first heard Grand Declaration and were left thinking "Wait, what?" I'm not sure if I can pick a favorite. Possibly Light Devouring Darkness, Whore of Bethlehem or Luciferian Crown. They are all equals in my ears, even if there are some production changes between them. It depends on my mood. While I know it is an EP, Angelcunt usually is my go to. While the later albums are better technically, there is nostalgia with that EP, listening to it on a tape on the bus a lot in 2002 and 2003.

Aye, it's very important to be reliable. Bands like Marduk, Iron Maiden, Cannibal Corpse and Archgoat (just to pick examples of various genres) are all good examples of that. I remember how big WTF moment this GDoW was back then. I still think it's the weakest Mayhem ever. But like you said, it's really hard to rank Archgoat albums for the given reason.

Hi Jerry, thanks so much for this video! The Luciferian Crown is also my favorite album and I was surprised to hear you think it is their best too, because it seems like most people prefer their older stuff even though the band is super consistent with their sound. I was also surprised that you didn't talk about the 1993 EP that much, I thought it was their most recognizable early work, and the Chris Moyen art there is very in-your-face blasphemous which contradicts a bit of your observation about art becoming more extreme with later albums. I very much appreciate your authentic and knowledgeable perspective on Finnish black metal and would enjoy more retrospectives about bands you have a lot of experience and a bit of an insider look. Thanks!

Thanks for your words. Nice to know we prefer the same album. About the ep: I always focus more on the albums that tend to define a band more than some early EPs and demos, if you get my meaning. But surely, worth a mention. You're probably right about the art, some details tend to be missed always. I will do more retrospective videos from now and the main focus is with the bands I have interviewed with. So in that regards you know what to expect.

Great vid and great band. Love me some Archgoat. When your LP’s come in Jerry, try playing some on 45rpm. I haven’t done them all, but the ones I have played on 45 end up sounding very much like “true” black metal.

Very good video. Archgoat is one of the best bands in the genre, they deserve total respect and support. My favourite album is WoB, maybe it's because I listened to it many times since it was released years ago, I don't know, but it really left a deep mark on me, to the point that during the few live concerts with my band we often played a "Lord of the void" cover. Btw, all their works are great (EPs included), you cannot go wrong with them: every new release is a blast of satanic darkness, they never disappoint

I’m thrilled to see them in Cult of Darkness in Helsinki in a couple of months. Never seen them yet. My favorite Archgoat album is probably The Apocalyptic Triumphator, although I have a soft spot for Angelcunt as well. Gotta give the newest albums some more spins as well.

I think any Archgoat song could be pretty much in any album. My fav is maybe The Apocalyptic Triumphator. Hard pick! Even though I’m not a huge Archgoat fan, I totally respect them for staying TRVE and giving middle finger to the passing of time. Their legacy is huge, especially for our Finnish scene!🇫🇮

I cant point what is my favorite archgoat album!!! I like them all!! One of my favorite band!! I have ewen archgoat Pack patch in my leather jacket!!! Great musically ,great lyrics, great BLACK metal,not black METAL!!! Some say it is black death metal ,thats Ok to me, but to me it is black metal! Just my honest opinion!!

Whore of Bethlehem is their best; The Apocalyptic Triumphator is their second best. No offense to Lord Angel-Slayer but he's at his best when his vocals aren't horribly over the top. One of the reasons WoB is their best one in my opinion. Great band no matter what.

That "worst to best" was designed as such, but decided to give even active bands a chance with the bands I have interviewed and so "complete" the story with both the interview and the look to the music etc. if it makes sense. Of course some bands will put out new music, but we can always go back to them later on.
