Yes yes yes!!! 100% agree with everything you said. I definitely think that Archie should be the main character in the show like it was in the comics because has the MOST BORING STORYLINES in the show. The writers STILL have no clue what to do with him. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT ARCHIE AND BETTY!! He has never said that he doesn’t want to be with her, he only said that he didn’t feel good enough for her. Cant wait to see barchie again, amazing essay on Archie!!! 100% agree! There’s no way Varchie should last after high school, there too different people. Also, I just find Varchie completely repulsive. And of course Betty is the one for Archie, there soulmates 💗🥰 Great character essay

I personally prefer Varchie in the comics, not the show. Originally in the classic comics, the love triangle wasn’t equal. It was a love triangle in name only. Betty had a huge crush on Archie, but Archie never paid any attention to her, especially when Veronica arrived. He was immediately smitten by Veronica. Betty had to do a lot to get Archie's attention, and Veronica didn’t. If you also look at the Archie comics logo with the three of them, Archie is always looking at Veronica. It's only until later in modern comics that they changed it. Archie started reciprocating Betty's feelings, so it wasn't one-sided and was more of a love triangle. I found this information while reading one of the modern Archie comics.

Very true-- in the old, classic comics, the whole dynamic was: Archie desires Veronica, Betty desires Archie. The more modern comics (a lot of which were what I grew up with), it's a love triangle where Archie is in the middle. Thanks for your contribution!

The problem why Archie couldn't be the main character because the show's main storyline is about mystery solving. And guess who the show made that exclusive to? =Bughead. They made the mystery investigating solving only exclusive to them which is the MAIN storylines of the show. All the other characters just get the filler or side storylines. I mean look at S4, Archie and Veronica were never really part of the tape storyline? Only exclusive to Bughead. That's the reason why. Imo if it wasn't for Bughead, different dynamics would have been done every episode by the writers. But nope they cater to fan service after S1.

I kind of liked that Archie joined the army in the series, I think it appeals to his want to help people. I just wished he had graduated with the rest of them. I also wish he actually had an arc, maybe alongside Betty, of dealing with ptsd. I think that would have been cool.

I personally think the military storyline should have gone to Kevin because that's what happens in the comics, but yes, I did like how it fueled Archie's drive to help people. 👌🏼

@@LucyAnne1 I think in S4 there was a lot of foreshadowing that Archie would join the military so I think it makes sense. Although my idea would have been why not Archie and Kevin join the military together and reminisce it when they get back to Riverdale? That would have been a lot more interesting imo but instead we have Archie interacting with no depth boring characters like Frank and Jackson

I definitely miss comics Archie, he was portrayed well in the 1968 The Archies Show and Archie's Weird Mysteries (1999-2002 I think?) but Riverdale screwed him over, like everything else. I'm also curious to know, do you think the show should be separate plots per episode or season or series long story arcs? (Many shows have a different story per episode whereas shows like Riverdale try to keep things going for at least a season), how do you think it should be formatted?

That's a very interesting question! I haven't actually thought about it that much. I feel like an episodic "separate plots per episode" formula might prevent the character arcs that I would want, but I also think that a lot of storylines in Riverdale last way too long and are way too drawn out. Maybe somewhere in the middle? And I also think that the show should have been much more comedic because, let's be honest, the Archie Comics have a lot of shenanigans and humor to them. I will be forever mad at these writers and the show for making Betty and Jughead the “main characters” just cuz of their popularity. This is why the show went from good to worse every season, because Bughead took up so much screen time that other characters like Archie, Veronica, Reggie, Kevin, Toni, Cheryl and Fangs were sidelined characters. Riverdale is truly the worst show to ever exist 😑

I wasn't originally going to because she's not a huge part of the comics, but maybe now that I plan to do ones on the smaller veteran comic characters (like Midge, Moose, Chuck, Nancy, and Dilton), maybe I could do one for her afterwards! 👌🏼
