not sure if anyone else noticed this detail... but the break up scene of Archie and Veronica, it was actually shot and filmed in a way where it looks like you're looking into a literal *sinking ship* ( i thought that detail and choice was VERY INTERESTING and very telling because this IS them ending things for good) it was filmed all dark, gloomy, wonky, lopsided, the angles that they filmed it, theres also a shot of what looks a lot like us looking into a window from an outside perspective looking in - seeing a sinking ship going down

Honestly my favorite part of the episode was just Jughead and Veronica's interactions, of which there was a...grand total of two. It's not a perfect translation of their comic dynamic but I don't dare to expect that from the show at this point, and it's probably the closest we're getting lol

I definitely agree with the points you made on mental health in this video. As we know, they never did research for the mental health issues Betty struggled with, even now as she faces PTSD from the whole TBK thing and they just throw it all out the window, it definitely pisses me off that they would have the nerve to play around with mental health issues and trivialize it. I personally loved Betty, Kevin and Charles' voices in this episode, though and I wish Betty and Kevin sang together more in their duet rather than one at a time. As for Varchie, good riddance, I don't like them, comics and show. I feel like they saw each other as trophies due to their attractiveness and reputations. Cheryl's 30 second scene of singing with Penelope was literally so pointless but hilarious to watch. Alice is definitely a toxic parent and she herself even admitted it in season 4 during the ice storm, my heart broke when she blamed Betty for Polly's death, if it wasn't for Betty, Polly would've died anyway if not sooner. I really hope 5x19 and Season 6 do characters justice. I'm curious to know how you think Riverdale could improve in S6 at the state it's currently in, what could be salvaged? Also, love the character essays and I can't wait for more. P.S- If you haven't seen the 5x19 trailer yet, there's two things in there you will like a lot despite it's intense and cringey nature overall ;) Sorry I wrote a long paragraph.

I am curious as to how you compose the character essays, do you write them first and then film or film as you talk about your thoughts on the characters?

Cole has a great voice, in my opinion. As a singer, I appreciate him more because even thought he didn't take singing classes he doesn't hold back when his character's singing performance has a purpose in the story, so he does his best to make it believable. He works harder than other colleagues that are more talented like lili and casey, and he manages to deliver great performances. The songs he sang weren't easy, but he was very good. He improved a lot.

Genuinely curious: Any Next to Normal fans, do you think it's wrong or problematic how much they took some of these songs out of context? I don't know how I feel about it yet, but I certainly do still know that Riverdale hasn't earned the right to adapt such an outstanding musical while their own depictions of mental illness have been so awful. I feel like a show that treat mental as such a quirky and cool thing like Riverdale should have no right to cover such a amazing musical like Next To Normal and taking it out of context is just so rude and insensible (Also Aaron Tveit deserves better than to be associated with Riverdale) Best part of the episode was Varchie breaking up for good tho !(i hope at least)

It could just be me. But while I was watching the I’m the one + I’m alive, it sounds like the people who play Polly/ Betty have some kind of tension in her mouth. Like possibly jaw/ tounge tension. Because they’ve got the strange accent on there voice. Also other characters on the show as well. Kind of like Cheryl. Sometimes Veronica. (Edit: sorry I’m late btw lol)
