Honestly its fascinating how straight line missions have introduced the idea of fallen trees as a dangerous thing. Before Geowizard started this, the danger didn't exist in the collective lexicon of hazards for adventurers afaik. Because you could just go around.. I love both straight line missions but watching both back to back makes me realize why the GeoWizard videos appeal to me more. GeoWizard's videos feel like he's taking you along with him on his journey with his narration, consistent check-ins with the camera, and music montages of traversing the land which give it that comfy and cozy feel to it. Archie and Adam feel more like they're showing you their adventure rather than taking the viewer along with them, which is fun, but less memorable overall.

Coming from someone who is following both GW and the Fieldhouses lines on a map, there is something that no one else seems to have noticed: The Fieldhouses line on this day went through only about 5% of the elevation gain and only about 5% of the forested area compared to GWs line. I expect this was done on purpose to reduce risk further along the route in all the farms on the last day. Props to Jarv for finding this route though, it may be even better than the Wizards. @jefo2405 Ай бұрын
Don't underestimate it, areas of fallen trees are extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Bear with me if you care. As you can see in all the footage there are also lots of cavities and pitfalls, worst case trapping your feet or legs. Good luck if you don't have a phone connection, and good luck if you do, telling anybody exactly where you are stuck! Then I wish anybody good luck sawing and chopping you out of that predicament! That's when the situation becomes serious! Walking through such an area is one thing, but working in it is a nightmare! Imagine having to remove 3-5 trees in order to get to the tree that traps you in place and it might just be the tip of a branch caught on your shoe without you being able to pull it back out of the hole you're stuck in. What you can't imagine is the amount of work that will go into safely removing those 3-5 trees that are on top of the one trapping you below! As forestry workers also will confirm, those areas are some of the most dangerous they encounter in their careers. From personal experience I can say that cleaning out trees like that is a nightmare and an extreme safety hazard if you're not over preparing and seriously taking every risk into account. As an example, it took me 12 hours to cut one fallen tree on a sharp incline into manageable pieces. Every time I cut a piece off of it, the remaining trunk whipped up by another 3 feet with full force, and when sawing in half the last section, the two pieces rolled off on trunks underneath into opposite directions and I had nowhere to jump to for safety, one large piece nearly ramming full force into my lower leg. That would have been the end of that working week. Now imagine not having to deal with only one tree, but with several resting on top of each other. Just estimating where to cut first, how to secure legacy trunks, preventing snapping, can take hours before even the first cut is made and you may be trapped there for a very long time. Of course none of this may happen, but if you go into high risk areas, the likelihood of something like this happening becomes substantial. There is a reason why you look both ways before crossing a road. There is are more reasons than one not to venture into such areas. But even walking and climbing across trunks is dangerous. Most trunks are on tension, might only retain it by simply holding on to other trunks with a few branches or because another trunk lays across it. You see big and heavy trees, you think they are stable, but it's an illusion. None of what you see around you is secure and safe! Slippage can cause surrounding trunks to move because of shifting tension distribution, especially on slanting terrain! There trunks can also lay unstable, even without others interfering, slipping, taking others with them and on top of that release tension with enormous force, so complete chaos can ensue when something happens. It's like playing with the trigger of a gun not knowing if it's set for hair trigger. Nothing happens, UNTIL something happens and then it happens violently. Pray you're not in the path of that "bullet"! On top of slippage you might have trees that still stand, but are about to snap or uproot in subsequent gusts of wind, dead branches can still fall and seriously injure you. It's an unpredictable and potentially lethal game of mega Mikado. The more time passed since the trees fell, the more prone they become to being slippery to stand and walk on, not only because of rain, but because of moss (as we can see especially in Tom's footage). After a few months the bark is also prone to releasing under your feet and acting like a wet bar of soap. The bare trunk of a conifer is very smooth and only retains some grip if very dry. With only a little bit of moisture it will become slippery. If you fall or stumble you have no chance of controlling your landing and you might get caught in branches while going down, making a landing unpredictable and you will most likely become injured! I'm old enough to say that I wouldn't go in there, I've broken enough bones in my day. I'd recommend no one to go into such areas, as you can see here and on Tom's channel, it's not even fun, so save yourself any such terrain and spare your health. I know the field mice are young, cocky and trying to make it look like it's easy walk in the park, but in fact it's seriously playing with danger. I'm sure they are aware, but trying not to show it. Tom had a bit more respect (and he knows why) yet persisted at his own risk and I hope he plans his route better in the future. Doing what they did is foolish. Accidents there can be a career changer, worst case a career terminator.

Same. I am small and light and remarkably good with balance, clambering across stuff, and even judging whether something is stable and strong enough to carry me, it's legit one of my talents, but I'm not going there. It's too dangerous, you simply cannot see everything. This was stupid. I'm not just ragging on Fieldhouses for it, GeoWizard gets an earful from me as well, especially since he has a family and a kid on the way, it was dumb to risk it. Plan your routes better. The only saving grace for the Fieldhouses was the robustness of their support team and the fact that theyndidn't travel alone. Traveling alone for Wizard was peak idiocy. Fun content to watch if you don't think too hard about the reality of what these guys f-cked with.

I've actually tried to search for potential straight line routes across newfoundland - the biggest issue is that there are too many lakes, pretty much any line crosses 10+ bodies of water and there is barely any accessible roads for the support crew to use, meaning that they would have to carry the duck/other means of crossing water on themselves

@@jerviservi They could have areas where they let them know where possible shells could still be. I don't think this guess of yours is strong enough I'd be playing with explosive shells with my bare hands but you go ahead & gamble on that assumption lol. Because military's have never missed a mine or two before in the past right? Yeah it's probably reasonably safe to walk across carefully but safe enough to pick up & fck with possible live shells? Nah

6:08 Not all railway lines are live in the sense of electricity passing through them, infact electricity never passes through the two running lines, it only ever travels through a 3rd rail which is located at the side of one of the running rails. If a line does not have a 3rd rail then there’s no danger of stepping in the tracks

It's not bullying but it *is* disrespectful to the man they steal their content concepts from. Tom started these for the love of adventure. These two copied the format after seeing the views Tom was getting and wanted them too. They don't care about the scenery or the wildlife or the sense of adventure and discovery. They care about the ending, not the journey. The comments they make about Davies come off as arrogant hubris made by infantile kids playing with things they don't respect or understand (and possibly live rounds).
