From what I can tell and have read about. It is the best you can make a Defender without completely revamping what it is. To me, I don't get why it exists as a trim. The Octa should have been an unabashed off-road machine that nearly abandons the thought of being driven on pavment. The biggest change there is besides the engine is the suspension. All it really does is add a small lift and allow the suspension to travel its full distance all of the time. It does not have normal stabilizer or sway bars at all. I have heard it's a fantastic suspension, and its roll center is unchanged. But I don't believe the average person will ever feel any difference at all. But at 160k USD, you could get a better off-road machine in a Bronco Raptor. I mean, why are you buying an Octa in the first place? For its offroad chops, and it's not really doing it any better than the current Defenders already do. Not to mention, you can only get the Octa in the 110. I'd keep your two door 90 V8. They literally said they wanted to make the Octa the most offroad capable Defender without degrading the road driveablity. For the price it's at and what they said it's supposed to be. I would expect a properly armored Defender with rock sliders, better/more recovery points, and 18" wheels. People go feral for capability that they'll never use. I'd imagine a Defender that is similar to a Rubicon or Raptor would sell like hotcakes.

@ All really good points - and when I saw that the Octa was 110 only it certainly made me frown. for me, living in the UK, the V8 90 is the best I’ve had. I’ve taken these cars up the side of Sugarloaf mountain in wales before and they are surprisingly capable! I just wish they were much cheaper to insure!

Won't do much better than any other Defender will. It's only major benefit is the suspension and 33s. Even then, it barely has a lift over standard and the fancy suspension only nets you 1.4" more travel in the front and .4" in the rear. This is absolutely targeted towards some shmuck that money is no object or doesn't care and wants the most expensive or capable Defender money can buy. I mean, you're paying 40k more a Defender V8 with different suspension and big tires.

@@StephenFogarty2023 Not really. LR has been using the BMW V8 engines since 2002. They started with M62, after that N63 and finally S68 (M engine) now. Jaguar AJ-126 was not a great engine. It had high fuel consumption (~10mpg), not reliable, high maintenance cost, and old technology. That's why it's phased out.

Its really not tho. Maybe more reliable but all modern cars are unreliable now. Too many electrics. The new defenders are much better off road and on road, they’re also a lot faster. Personally the best trucks are an old land rover 90 300 TDI basic reliable strong easy to fix and will go alot further offroad than a toyota

Lexus is ranked as quite unreliable in Australia along with Toyota. A few group law suits and just overpriced average uninspiring motor with a decade old technology. The Land Rover is ranked high in reliability and prestige.
