Hong Kong is not a city state anymore. The United States government has declared that legally speaking, Hong Kong is no longer different from Mainland China, at least for the purposes of trade. Its over red rover. Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei all eat Honker's dim sum for breakfast. Even Shenzhen next door has significantly more finance action in terms of market cap--think about it, raise funds in Shenzhen and then find companies to make your goods. Every part and widget is made in Guangdong, the province with the highest GDP in all of China. Hong Kong didn't make too many things since the 70s. Put all the chips on finance and the luck at the tables has run out, womp womp.

Gosh you really talk crap. I am a South African businessman and have done business in Hong Kong for 20 years. Yes, Nathan Road in Kowloon is the Golden Mile of Hong Kong. But with rents being extreme, prices are the highest in Hong Kong. I do business at the other end of Hong Kong, in the NEW TERRITORY, the Industrial Area, and I shop where the locals shop, and still bargain down prices. Prices are heaps lower in the NT. And tourists never go to the New Territory area. Nathan Road is a beautiful golden rip off.🇿🇦🇿🇦.
