I find it incredible that folks with no idea what is all about, and most evidently never experienced boat sailing (whether small boats or superyachts) make silly comments... Ever heard of refueling needs? Ever heard of electricity connection (to save fuel and emissions) ??? anchoring at bay is not always possible and/or advisable. I used to anchor at bay most times (owned a small 10 meter motor sailer), and often needed to dock inside, between other boats: boat people do not peek inside other boats

@@claudiotagini you think that at this point the yacht would be refueled? yes, lokks like you're an absolute expert 😉
@claudiotaginiАй бұрын
@@masterbrain6561 and what makes you think the yacht does not need refueling??? I am certainly not an "absolute" expert, but in the early '70s I did sail (on a small sailboat, just less than 10 meters) for a strait month (in August, that is) for several years in a row... leaving Santa Margherita Ligure (3 miles from Portofino), where I used to live, where my mother still lived, where I still have relatives living, and where I mostly kept the boat (except for two overwintering in Porto Ercole (Tuscany, Argentario promontory), and I mostly stayed anchored in nearby bays, small coves... but, as I might run out of food (I always eat FRESH FOOD), fuel for the engine, or sometimes the weather forecast demanded it, I reached inside of marinas and/or little harbors... So, by posting your supposedly sarcastic statement, therefore SHOWING TO EVERYBODY THAT YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL ON THIS MATTER, what pushed you to do it? you're certainly NOT a master-brain, OK, we all got that... Aside from the fact that you could also read bobl1769 above, which explains why "especially" as superyacht staying inside a harbor... do you still feel supersmart?

That is M/Y Olivia, and it has an X-BOW. The patented Ulstein X-BOW tapered shape is supposed to result in a wave-piercing effect at small wave heights and reduce pitching and bow impact loads in bigger seas. Many Ulstein platform supply and anchor-handling tug vessels utilize this bow design.

good docking, slow and easy.. BUT he has ALL the tools to do it, video systems, many bumpers, stern and bow thrusters, many experienced crew members on his and the other boats, and like the guy below said, no cross winds or currents.. about 35 years ago coming back from mystic to miami beach i tried docking my 20 meter motor yacht in riveria beach marina opposite peanut island (palm beach) with one piling between my boat and the face dock, one time, with massive current and wind, gave up and anchored for the night in lake worth.. there was no space to pick up a bow line and work the boat alongside.. had generators, water makers and so forth so less expensive to anchor rather than break something.. good anchors and lots of chain is essential on a good motor yacht..

@jaquigreenlees3 ай бұрын
quite often the thrusters are pto powered, meaning 30 minutes to get the main engine running, to temp and engage the pto.* the onus is on the vessel manoeuvring to avoid collision, by remaining unpowered the already docked vessel get a no fault insurance claim if damaged. Starburst did not use their thrusters, Eminence bumped with a fender, giving them the movement that opened the space. * the electrical generator may have a pto but not be strong enough for the thrusters to work. all the big yachts shown did have generators running.

It turns my stomach when all people see is greed and selfishness when they view the achievements of others. It is very difficult to call this an incredible maneuver,it can even be called a bit amateurish. First of all, the captain should be operating the boat from the windward station,in this case he should be on stbd station, because in crosswinds you always want to keep your boat as close as possible to the windward boat,he does not really need to see the boat on his portside but he was operating the boat from port station and watching the boat on his port and secondly, it is not difficult to dock a yacht with such a powerful bowthurster in relatively calm weather.
