"of course it took us each a couple years to learn how to walk" I love that

This is a great whistler. Kottke knows where he came from, whether Hurt or Seeger.

There's a clip (actually several) on KZbin where Leo Kottke plays this song, preceded by a long introduction where he raves about Pete Seeger and speaks with great admiration about Pete's sense of melody, harmony and rhythm. You can really hear all of those things in Pete's performance here. Living in the Country sounds as if it should be easy to play, but there is so much happening in the arrangement that it's almost as if there were a whole band playing. I've tried many times, but I've never succeeded in getting the lively, Calypso-like feel that Leo, and especially Pete, deliver on this piece.

Leo Kottke and Terry Tufts both do fine jobs of covering this tune. It took me a while trying to "uneducated" my thumb to play it like Pete (not that I can play it like Pete, but I try)

My favorite is Martin Simpson ... best of all versions, I think.

I still remember the day I disconnected the fingers from the thumb… On the porch determined to play finger style guitar. I miss so much the trail blazers of music epoch.

Interesting guitar - just a guess, maybe a mexican or texan luthier from the bull bridge? Doesn't look to be a bajo, neck looks too narrow...

@@EricFlatpick similar sound, but definitely not a Stella or even a Regal - no east-coast maker had anything similar.

For anyone who wants to learn this tune, look elsewhere. The cameraman focused a lot on the right hand (useless), Pete's face, etc. What a shame.

What tuning is he using, is it drop D tuning ??
@PHJimY4 жыл бұрын
Pete most always used relative drop D tuning, but he tuned lower than that.
