I had to watch twice because it was so pretty and simple that I realized I had to be missing something. They should have call it the Paradox House. All the hefty, substantial material that appears light and airy. The bulky concrete that acts like a sheer curtain. The heavy stone that seems to dance in the kitchen. The showstoppers (stone, stairs, etc.) which are perhaps outdone by the silent snipers (the stonework, cabinetry, the light/use of mirrors and the LIGHTING!). Well done!!

Even using hard building materials like concrete and natural stone can be made to appear 'light' and 'airy'. The materials lend a feeling of safety and permanence. High ceilings and floor to ceiling walls of glass really emphasis's the connections between inside and outside spaces. Floor layouts are practical for a growing family.

I really like SOME parts of this home but not into some other parts. I like the concrete curtain idea with light passing through it - I haven't seen this before and it's a refreshing take on the raw concrete wall trend (which I have mixed feelings on). I like the sculpted staircase, the circular skylight, the flow of the home. I like the use of lighting and matted walls that create this soft, glowing feel to a home at night - it's very cozy, very comforting, and relaxing. But I think they went overboard using travertine and quartzite. They splashed too much of it everywhere. The kitchen island made with it and maybe backsplash would've been great but also making ALL cabinets with it just made it too busy and splashy. Same goes for the bathrooms that are all wall-to-wall travertine. A bit more restrain would've created a more sophisticated, natural look.

I hear you. I feel they just went a bit overboard with travertine and quartzite everywhere. If they were just to limit it to countertops and maybe the fireplace and just flooring or walls in the bathroom, it would've been more in tune with the rest of the house that emits this soft, cozy glow. But having too much of these super luxury materials can backfire.

I try to avoid making negative comments but sometimes I can't refrain. In this case, wow, this has to be the house with the ugliest kitchen ever (considering it's from a person with enough money to have a fantastic one). I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I just can't comprehend why would you like your kitchen to look like a mausoleum. It looks so cold and uninviting. The stair in the other hand is stunning, so elegant and at the same time cozy (due to the use of wood). I also liked the skylight in the walk-in closet. The rest of the house is indifferent to me, nothing really stands out as exceptional.

@@Stickybutton It’s hard to explain, I understand that the decorator wanted to create a calm interior with a reference to the sea. but the beach turned out to be too sandy and lifeless. (as in the Arab Emirates) or like the Mexican desert. and the turquoise kitchen is just as monolithic, without small details... something is missing. but these are just my feelings...

I share your misgivings. I think the problem is too much of that material. They made literally the entire kitchen out of stone - it's a really nice color and could be soothing but not in those quantities everywhere. Had they just used it on the island and then used neutral colors for the cabinetry, it would've been perfect, to my eye. It would've been a splash of color and textures and not something that just overpowers the living room and makes it too busy. Same thing with travertine everywhere. Maybe bathroom counters, maybe flooring would've worked but they clad the bathrooms floor to ceiling with it and it's too much.

I wonder if you’d say that if you had a chance to spend some time at the house. So much attention to detail is amazing. Look at it with different eyes, you may change your mind. These homes are beautiful in their simplicity. Perhaps you have a different aesthetic, I don’t like all modern homes, but I’ve learned to appreciate not only the homes, but the reasons why architects build the homes the way they do. Take a look at Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes, he was criticized in his time, only now is he appreciated as a man of vision.

you can tell by the ladies body language and comments that she does not either like the architecture or the architect. "I knew it was going to be an amazing result." Not, "I knew it was going to be amazing art, or architecture." Just .... a result. :) Also, she raised her eyebrow earlier when talking about him, so there's some tell about her opinion on him or the architecture. I wonder if this dude is a dick, has money or is just a dick and has money.
