I got the 4.5 in Magnacut a couple of days ago, think you'd really, really like it. Just the perfect size and geometry.

I like the choil on my 6.5 because it shifts the balance point to the middle of your hand, so it's easier to get control for feather-sticks or other small tasks. But then you still have the rear hold for chopping or batoning. But to each their own

Thanks for this excellent comparison between the two. I'd probably pick the 5.5 personally as I like its design better. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!

I'd say that if someone only wants to carry 1 knife that is sort of a jack of all trades, I'd say get the 6.5 but I'd personally pick the new larger AK 8 for batoning and hard chopping/brush clearing tasks (since it's much longer than the other AK models) and the AK 5.5 for general purpose tasks like tinder scraping, fire starting, food prep, etc. I always take at least 2 to 3 blades with me when camping.

hell, if you've got the AK8 for the big stuff, then I would go down to the AK 4.5 for the small stuff.

@@johnsanford3596 I usually carry 3 fixed blades when camping. A large chopper for batoning/chopping kindling, a small bushcrafting knife like a Mora or PKS mountaineer for firestarting/feathersticking/tinder scraping, and a large double edge blade for backup self defense against predators in case my revolvers don't get the job done. I also like to keep a folding saw in my backpack and a pocket knife in my side pocket with a 4 inch blade. For some reason I don't like to carry any small fixed blades with blades under 5 inches. Seems like I can just carry a more lightweight folder for tasks that don't require a larger blade.

Well put, the Jack's of all trades are the masters of none. But if you can have only one, they're the best. I have that in mind while I collect more fixed blades. Than you for pushing me back on that path. Pocket knives have been my sole focus for the last half decade.

Going out to do some bushcrat campingfor a few nights, in my opinion is a big choper and a 3 to 4 inch scandi grind knife is a must. The choper to do heavy work. Choping & splitting fire wood, builind shelter etc. And small true bushcraft knife for making feather sticks traps, triggers etc. And for food prep. A 5 to 6 inch blade can do all the tasks but not great. But for going on a all day hike and not spending the night in the woods, then ether one in this video is perfect. And i do have the Architect 5.5.

Love everything about this knife except the skeletonized handle. I’ll stick with my esses until they offer a solid handle. I’ve seen so many breaks at that point. I could care less about knife balance give me a solid handle.

you know who uses knives all day, including lots of "getting in there"? Butchers and chefs. Have you EVER seen a butchers or chefs knife with a finger choil? Nope, because those folks aren't going to risk their fingers for a stupid fashion. I got PLENTY of blade cuts from X-Acto knives when I was a kid building models, I don't need anymore. I agree with you on the 5.5 over the 6.5. If the 6.5 did NOT have a finger choil, AND it was made with the thinner blade stock of the 5.5, I'd be all over it.

I’ve done a few day hikes with the AK 5.5. The time’s I wanted to build a fire I was wishing I had a larger thicker blade. The 6.5 size is about the minimum size I want to go on an overnight or longer trip. If I’m Jeep/Truck Camp’n...I’ll have more blades than Lay’s has Potato Chips...

Maybe try a 17-18 edge angle on that 6.5. I am sure the steel can take it, I was able to put a 17.5 degree on a Busse Team Gemini Light Brigade and it did alright with that edge angle.
