This is very helpful! I'm a leftie and have been wanting to try a new nib out but wasn't sure what would work. I mainly use M, some B's but it's too thick. I like my 1.1 stub when I get the variation but as you pointed out it isn't easy.

Thank you. This is very interesting. I’m a lefty, who usually writes overhand, I.e. my hand is above the letter as I write. I find that specialty nibs tend to give me the reverse effect that right handed writers obtain. So stub nibs give me narrow downstrokes and broader sidestrokes. But when I write underhanded with my left hand, I get the normally expected results from stubs and the “ journaler” nib on Esties. So my conclusion is that hand placement when writing is more important than the grind. I also find that in my left hand, nibs are less wet and leave a narrower line than when I try to write with my right hand. I’m coming to the conclusion that the best option for me is to buy a broad nib and have a nibmeister grind it for my hand after they watch me write.

I'm also an overwriting-left-hander - you might be on to something. Still glad to see a fellow "lefty" show how this grind works for his style. Because of this I may add a new nib to my collection and try it out. Thanks MicL 😊 👍

I attended a calligraphy class requiring the use of the Pilot Parallel Pen. As a lefty, I couldn’t for the life of me get the result everyone else was and it was very frustrating and embarrassing. I felt really stupid. I now feel validated after seeing this demonstration of the dreaded parallel pen! Thank you!

Ahhh I was sitting here watching your other video on the Lamy and had already been thinking about an Architect, too. Since I write in block/all caps and 99% of the time I write underhand, I don’t know that I’d see much difference. Love your videos. Thanks for the learnings!

Yes, I also love architect nibs. (left hander here) But I'm a really directly under under-writer - with my hand almost directly below the letter being written. I have a huge architect nib, ground by Matthew Chen from a BB Jowo nib. One of my favorites architect nibs is the Esterbrook scribe nib, ground by Jushua Lax - it is a good compromise between crispness and smoothness, leaning slightly crisp.

Thank you for the demonstration, Mick. Being left-handed this video was certainly of interest to me. I have tried stub nibs and found them to be very unforgiving; a lot of scratchiness and skips. However the architect would seem to be a better choice for me, perhaps more forgiving for someone who tends to overwrite. Unfortunately their availability is lacking as most pen manufacturers do not offer these nibs. Where did you find yours?

This is very interesting. I'm a lefty underwriter, and I do like stubs, but they don't have the end result I'm hoping for. I might see if i can get a cheap architect to plat with.

So, as a lefty writer, having an architect nib is good for having more of a "stub-like" look that a right-handed writer would have?
