Excellent documentary. Very well made. Sinan was indeed the greatest architect the world has ever seen. Mimar Dr Sinan Ginem made a small mistake at 57:02 . Nurbanu Sultan was the mother of Murad III and not of Mehmed III.

Kırık Kemer = Broken Arch. It boggles my mind that a lot of Turkish words pronounced yet translated in this video. If Turkish Names given to Those structures were translated to English language it would make a lot more sense for international viewers. Kırk Çeşme = 40 Fountaine (or Faucet)

It's silly to not mention Aya Sophia influence on mimar sinan because most öf Ottomans mosque are just the Islamic copy of Aya sophia

It is obvious. Sinan was Christian originally and probably Greek. He went to church growing up. That left an impression on him.
@emintahirneftci90013 жыл бұрын
yes you are right about upper structure (dome and two semi dome) at the Hagia Sophia and Süleymaniye Mosque. But spatial organization is totally different. Character of basilical plan can not be observed at mosques. Instead of axis (naves) that divide the space at basilica, Sinan's mosques have "one space" that covers community in it as a "one whole". I suggest you to look at Turkish structures, for instance Diyarbakır Kurşunlu Mosque which has a dome with semidomes that was built before Sinan mosques.

@@JC19676 You speak without resources. Mimar Sinan is the child of a Christian family of Turkish origin. The region is a Turkish-Christian region. His father's name not being Turkish does not make him Greek because many people in Anatolia are named in Arabic because of the religion of Islam, but Turks are not Arabs.
