lyrics
is thunder written on your face?
cause we’re balancing between the sky and fire
i see you begging for another taste
when the medicine is easy to acquire
we worship at the altar of the echo
but the keeper of the keys couldn’t care
any less so
let go, let go, let go
let’s live a lifetime out in the cold
nothing to see here it’s under control
the signal’s dropping out
it never rains, it’s always fucking torrential
they say it’s best that we forgot our potential
have we nothing left to sing about now?
do i really wanna shout about
all the love in the world?
if you wanna lay it all to waste
then repeat the message coming down the wire
i’m seeing apathy all upper case
are you gonna be another gun for hire?
eleven hours then a hail mary
can you shed another tear for the bodies
that you bury?
bless the empty
with the devil they desire
if we’re all machines then cut the scene
and don’t look back
no, we never grieve our enemies
we never leave the pack
if they come for me when i’m asleep
trace these tracks
cause impossibly we came to be
from out the black

This is this album’s “Libertine” - a song which isn’t probably going to get talked about enough but, for me, is one of the standout tracks on the album. Super catchy and that “whoah” bit is heavenly.

It reminds me a lot of Meteor especially with the "woah" bit. The whole song has an early to mid 00s hard rock sound with an electronic spin. I'm just waiting for someone to make an AMV using this song lol

this is definitely one of the best songs on the album. I think this album as a whole is good but after listening to it in its entirety I feel like I barely remember it. a lot of the songs kinda blur together with similarity. I think this probably won't be such an issue when I get to know the songs better. its definitely an album that will get better as I listen to it more.

I 100% agree, a lot of the songs are lacking, burn down my house had literal fucking jingle bells, but the stars of the album SLAP: tear gas, deep fake, spit the bone, and last but definitely not fucking least, be very afraid

Lyrics have so much meaning to be realized by the world nowadays! Not every line, but several parts ought to be the top priority for humanity to realize in it's current state. Also easily a masterpiece crown jewel in this album. Easily my favourite!

What is the message of the song? I’ve heard it’s about fans complaining that they’re no longer JUST loud, angry and aggressive anymore. Which is why Sam is asking if they really want to shout about “all the love in the world.” As if they can’t acknowledge the beauty in this world without everything having to be so negative.

@@lizzyrose6178 I think this song is a stone in the garden for performers who sing about love and avoid the themes of death, politics, religion. About hypocrites whose world is like a fairy tale and there are no problems in it. "Lets live a lifetime out in the cold"

If I had to choose 1 adjective to describe this album, it's "MODERN". I discovered the band with FTTWTE and imo it's still the best album I've ever heard, and I remember I truly felt its modernity at that time. No matter the haters, I'm here for that. Good job lads 🖤

One of Britain’s best bands resorting to making stuff like this. Money is tight for everyone right now and they have kids, mortgages, families etc. I get it. They’re capable of so much better than this and I’m sure they know that, but if this is now less of an artistic mission and more of a fun job for them then good luck to them and thanks for the great music over the years.

Pretty sure the entire song is a response to the criticism that their music has gotten to 'lighthearted' and therefore they've 'lost their potential'. They aren't making miserable and heavy (in theme) music anymore, they aren't singing about Tom and there seems to be a crowd that wants them to continue singing about that entire situation still - 'can you shed another tear for the bodies that you bury'. Obviously I'm paraphrasing the entire song but the message I got is just as basic as 'we have more to offer than the same sad songs that we have always sung'.
