I'm so tired of people over-simplifying criticism as "disliking experimentation". Experimenting is fine. As an example, I'm a huge fan of Parkway Drive's early material but I *loved* Reverence. It had a lot that reminded me of old Parkway, mixed in with the catchiness and simple grooves of newer Parkway. Very solid and fun. Darker Still though? Absolutely hated it. Doesn't even sound like the same band anymore. The experimentation is still fine, but the result was bad (in my opinion). That's the thing. People treat experimentation like it always results in good things when that isn't always the case.

I mean, they really didn't. It isn't even a about being heavy, on a musical level it was just more simple and simply worse.
@thesamaffliction15728 ай бұрын
This is my point. People seem to forget they didn't just change sound when a lineup changed or something. They had a hugely traumatic life experience and naturally changed as people and a band so need to experiment coming out the other side of that. It's the most horrific unwarranted hate I've seen towards a band, especially here in the UK where they're on top of the scene with Sleeps and Bring Me. Even if you don't like it, let them be them, and just enjoy their old stuff while listening to the million other bands that have great songs inspired directly from Tom and older Architects writing
@thesamaffliction15728 ай бұрын

Interesting discussion point... Sam had a brief chat with Daniel P Carter on the Radio 1 Rock Show, where he expressed that they seemingly are going in a heavier direction from now. He said something along the lines that TCSOABS "humbled" them and that they "know what makes the band special" and they are laser-focused moving forward. I personally really enjoyed TCSOABS, but it seems that the band recognise that they want to try and do better, and part of that is exploring their heavier side again (not that there weren't any heavy tracks on the last two albums!) Personally, I'm really glad that this song encapsulates everything that they've been doing over these past few years, but it feels sharper. The hardcore influences, the electronic elements and of course the HUGE chorus (which my god, recency bias I know, but that might be the best chorus vocal of the year - that or jaded by spiritbox). They haven't compromised their sound in any way, and the message and lyrics are concise and powerful. The future is looking bright!!!

I think a lot of the reason people are so feral about this band is because they grew up listening to them. Architects have helped a TON of people through so many things in life like depression, anxiety, school, work, all the way til having children and watching them grow up and listening to Architects in the car with them. And when Tom passed, they release Holy Hell and it was damn near one of the greatest albums on planet earth and still is to this day. All of that amounts to an insane emotional attachment to this band and when they completely change their sound, it's almost impossible not to be upset about it. But I agree with you man, some of the lengths people go to are seriously fucked up and it's a shame that we cant all accept that their vision has changed. We dont take the time to try and understand what their reasons for it are, and that's a problem a lot of us have throughout life in general. We are too focused on what we want than what someone else wants. That needs to change but unfortunately I dont think it ever will. I dont like the newer style either but there are 4001991 bands out there that scratch that itch for me. If Architects wants to play celtic folk country, let them.

What you said is very true, some people get so shitty about the fact that they don't like their newer stuff. I've seen a post that was like "Tom would hate this new Music" or something in that direction. Just some of the most disgusting things you could say. But still, love this mix between the newer influences like the epic Stadion choruses and the heavier parts.

Architects is one of my favorite bands no matter if they make a non heavy song or a song like this. Tho this song hits hard.

I think I was one of the few who enjoyed their last album, but it’s hilarious that this song is essentially a diss track against their fans… absolute banger

I grew up on their 2012 - 2016 stuff and don´t like most of the songs from 2018 onward. Even their life shows in my eyes got worse, because they just don´t play anything pre 2018. But I dont need to hate them, they moved on and I´m happier that way, than I would be if they put out another AOGHAU album. This new single though, I really like. If the album will be this fun to listen to (don´t care heavy or soft, just F U N) then maybe they can get some of their old fanbase back. Which I would love for them to happen

As an former old time fan of theirs that gone off them last album or so, this is what I'm hoping for. Hoping for some energy and something fun from their next effort. This song slaps.
@thetheeser6598 ай бұрын
@@sanakan198X I think that the change was much needed if there were that many toxic people in their audience. They changed, that gave the haters voice and now they, hopefully, just go away hating on some other band that doesn´t really deserve it.
@johnyang7998 ай бұрын
The key of their older stuff is the energy. It's not a matter of just being heavy. The mid time (daybreak too actually) lost forever to holy hell have the energy and with pitched scream. Ah man. So good.
@johnyang7998 ай бұрын
@@thetheeser659Most people don't hate. It's the very small portion of the "fans" but you know it's these people that hurt the most. But honestly this song feels just the same as last two albums.

I get the point of the song, but I'd kill for them to take some stuff from this going forward. The mixing is a big step up in particular. This with some more Architects-y songwriting would go crazy.

Watching the introduction and as a fan of metal core, Architects were never really on my radar but as Nic described fellow metal core fans gave me a “are we the baddies” moment. It’s a great song, going to go through the Architects catalog.

This band legitimately had someone rush the stage and tell Sam something like “the new sound is letting Tom down” imagine being that much of a prick you tell a band they’re letting down their dead friend… If any band has the right to call out a toxic fanbase in a song, it’s Architects! I’ve loved every album from The Here And Now onwards.

For the record. 1. I am personally dissapointed by direction and last album they`ve released. I am connecting this also with Josh departure due to potential misalignment on direction/musical style 2. Love every previous record and been on numerous show, and will keep banging to legendary songs 3. I am SOO POSITIVELY SUPRISED by this song! 4. I hope that the whole record would be like this actually :D
