I get why people would be a little disappointed if their old stuff was so much heavier, but for me personally, I love hearing solid cleans in metal now a days. People that aren't familiar with metal tend to associate the singers to be just screaming heads that can't actually sing, but BOI.....Architects throws that theory right out of the fuckin water. His cleans mixed with the incorporation of singing and screaming is so flawless to me. I'm glad they decided to experiment with this kind of music because I got to hear the awesomeness and range of Sam's voice

I love the catchiness of it. They can have every song be banger.
@idrinkmilk2825 жыл бұрын
how any could be disappointed by this fucking masterpiece of writing is beyond me. and as for the heaviness thing, it may not be their heaviest, but this is a different kind of message. some of their songs require a heavy vibe, some a softer one. regardless, softer or no, this is still perfectly in line with what i would expect from this band as a long time fan
@gaijinguineapig5 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I love their heavy stuff, I mean that's why most of us listen to them, but I don't need EVERY song to thrash my ass off. This was such a great balance of melody and heavy without sounding "generic" imo. I hope people give it a chance and not dismiss it because it's not what they expect from Architects.

Man, Sam said in an interview that the entire album is completely about their struggle when tom died and I believe that the last song ends on a note of being able to over come the grief and sorrow of losing tom. This song in my opinion talks about how after losing a loved one you'd beg god to give the person back to us you know and then realising that such a thing won't happen you lash out on everyone. (I could be entirely wrong, just my opinion of the song)
@JamesOfTheYear5 жыл бұрын
I think that's a likely explanation. I also think it could be interpreted to be about depression in general. We all have different ways of coping (as shown in the video - drink, drugs, ego, apathy, rage), and we all want everything to be fine (waiting for god to bend the knee), but we aren't willing to do anything to change (we're nothing more than royal beggars).

James Fox that's a great interpretation of the song man. Does make a lot of sense. I think Sam did say that they have written the songs in such a way that it's universal to all people going through some kind of grief or turmoil.

There's heavy, and there's also emotionally heavy. Metalheads should look into this. Dynamics can be used to tell a story. Dynamics are good. Those soft parts allow the heavier parts to hit even harder.

Just from a quick google session I found this little piece, in response to an interviewer asking about the meaning of the song "Brighton-based rock band Architects say that their song Royal Beggars "looks at our inability to face the pain in our lives and our reluctance to reach out for help from those around us. We all have our own vices that we abuse to distract ourselves from looking at our demons in the eye." And Lewis Cater's video for Royal Beggars tackles this uncomfortable truth head on. Together with a powerful band performances, he creates portraits of each bandmember acting out a particular mind-numbing vice, with devastating effects upon their health."

I enjoy it when a band experiments with new sounds as long as it doesn't seem like they're doing it just to make more money. There's some bands out there that clearly change their sound so they can replicate the successes of other bands, Architects don't seem like that to me. They very much seem like a band that want to stick their own sound while experimenting here and there. They've been a band for almost 15 years so I'm completely on board with how their new tracks are sounding. Although I'm hoping there's at least a couple heavier tracks on their new record.

The true architects fans here would realise that they're not only just singing softer. They've always done that. Guys, they've released about 7 albums. Lost forever and all our gods are all heavy. But albums before that... here and now and daybreaker. They all contain softer sung songs. They are merely going back and doing some music like their previous stuff. I personally love it.

well i love Sams cleans. Also it's awesome how they put emotions in with the scream and clean mix. I like older tracks too but i love this album. Furthermore the album is about how they handled the death of Tom, how they survived their own Doomsday caused by this loss. I can literally feel with them when i hear it. Maybe as a hard metal fan you dont like it but try to appreciate it as the art of music it really is. Never a band could trigger so many emotions within me like them with "Holy Hell"

I personally really liked this track. I think that by having the cleans over the more soft synth parts really added nice breather moments before hitting you with the heaviness again. The song maybe slower than their usual stuff, but, the anger, rage, and intensity feels like it's being directed and controlled at a specific topic instead of just going berserk. I also thought the vocal delivery was amazing. It felt precise and had a real emotional kick behind it that you just felt in your gut. As for the meaning of the video, it looks like what they are trying to show or say is that you can have all the money in the world, but, with more wealth comes more responsibilities to not only your family, but, society as a whole. Your image matters a lot more than what it used to when you were an 'Average Joe', you now have to work extra hard to ensure that you don't lose all the things you've gained, and many other things. That's why we see a lot of celebrities and public figures turn to drugs, alcohol, and other such things to help them cope. And in dealing with all that added responsibility they wind up begging and craving for more out of life even though they technically have everything. I think that's what they mean by 'Royal Beggar'. I could be wrong but that's the impression I got from it.

The song is based on our blindness whats going on in society," we keep looking but are not listening". We need drugs, alcohol,or others things that keep us from reality for a few minutes or hours to make it through the day cuz the expectations of society is based on money/mass producing. We meet this cycle and keep pushing our selves till we're old.

From what i take from this song and video, its about coping with a loss in some way or another and finding something to help to keep your mind off that by using drugs, alcohol, gambling etc. Instead of actually facing it head on and accepting it even though we know we should "Our eyes are open, but we’re not listening" . Now im from the UK and thats the first time ive heard the term royal beggars but im assuming there getting at that we all think were more important in someway or another than we actually are like royalty, but in actuality we are nothing more than beggars. Though i could be completely wrong here.

In response to "are you a fan of more cleans?" Yes! Absolutely! It blows me away how this band continues to evolve i think for the past few albums since LFLT theyve kept abit of a different sound but become progressively melodic. I'm personally hugely into when bands can be dynamic in their tracks and seamlessly work in clean and distorted vocals (Like Sam) especially when his clean vocals seem to get constantly improve too, all the while producing these beautifully melodic but heavy tracks with great lyrical content. I feel as far as many bands go these are one of the best all rounders, but i maybe biased because i just fucking buzz off their overall sound all in all

I will say man that this is exactly what I'm expecting. The band are having to completely reinvent themselves after losing the guy who wrote all their prior stuff. It's clear that this more melodic/sad sound is a means to show the stages of their suffering. Anger is for sure a stage of grief so if you're waiting on something heavy I wouldn't be too worried. This is a venting process for them after all.

Sorry in advance for the long comment. Just giving my two cents on the direction of this new album. I think that, given the departure of Tom, and how the band is trying to move through that and try their hand at writing new material (given that Tom wrote 100% of all Architects songs and lyrics til now), it's only normal to see an injection of emotion and melody in this album. I would expect nothing less. For themselves, but even for the fans. I feel that it's necessary for the following album to offer us that space to grieve and move forward. For what it's worth, I still feel that, while there are significantly more clean vocals and melody in the new songs, they do still keep the Architects sound at its core. And given that none of them ever wrote an Architects song in the past 13 years.... this is astounding! It would have been really easy for them to mess this up. But they didn't. I personally feel that for the past 13 years... they may have all been underestimating themselves. And it's nice to see them all rise and succeed this time around. As much as I love songs like Nihilist, These Colours Don't Run, C.A.N.C.E.R... I'm grateful that they're offering me the chance to listen to something softer and more emotional after the death of Tom. To be honest, I'm just fucking grateful they at least tried to write new material, considering they didn't think they would or could.

Actually rather enjoy the clean vocals here, I've always felt myself that it really depends on whether it fits with the music or not, sometimes you get examples of clean vocals that just don't fit and likewise vocals that seem unnecessarily harsh Suggestion for ya, another (less known) growing UK metal band that similarly mixes harsh and clean - Internal Conflict, latest track from last year is Catharsis but they've got a new one coming real soon Nothing is Lost which I'm well stoked for
