Another GREAT video, thanks PhotoScholar! I'd really appreciate a tutorial on shooting flambient/vertical, focusing on focal lengths and editing for distortion!

Interesting take on images made for Arch Digest and to please other artist. In both RE/Arc photography and also landscape photography I think I forget this sometimes. To be honest, the interior images I get the most excited about are the ones like you see in Arch Digest that are moody and shot in a house that has really good natural light coming through the windows creating a good contrast of light/shadow. Most homes don't provide those type opportunities so it is fun and feels rewarding. But I have noticed that they never perform as well on social media sites as my well lit images showing more room and I think to your point most people don't see things with the same eyes and appreciation as us so called artist. To them it's just a dark, poorly lit image. Similar to me getting excited about a moody landscape image in the fog or an abstract fine art image in nature that won't perform nearly as well as an image taken of a well know location with a vibrant sky or something like that.

This was very good comparison. I use to mix those styles often when doing real estate photos for traktera.. put way to much efforts when not needed :)

Hey Nathan, I have learned a lot from you. I just got an Editor to call me for optometrist office gig. I have no clue on what to charge really. Not to put numbers out there but would you say it should cost 10 times as much as the same gig would be for the RE market? I have done RE photography for 13 yrs, so I feel I know my area for that but not really for the Design client. Any info would be helpful.

When you photograph Airbnb villas, is it real estate or architecture? In my area, all the airbnbs are moody, no flash pictures. Nobody uses flambient. I’ll shoot a few villas soon and I’ll just do flambient for wide angles and some close ups with the help of a flash if needed. Personally, I don’t like ambient in the interiors.

AirBnbs fall into the first marketing category, but it's up to the client as to what "style" they'd like. No matter your personal preferences, it's good to deliver what the client wants. Since VRBOs/AirBnbs should be charged by the hour, similar to A&D work, you can consider suggesting that style to your clients. Their feedback though is what will decide how and what you shoot.
