Excellent video. I have been using photoshop since the beginning, and I never thought to use the grey layer in overlay mode to dodge shadow areas.

What are your thoughts on realtors using your (photographers) pics to virtually stage empty/vacant properties you shoot for them, thus by-passing you??
@NathanCoolPhoto20 сағат бұрын
I offer my clients two things when they mention they'll virtually stage images with another service (1) I can give them faster turnaround if I do it myself and (2) I can provide a higher quality image. If your clients virtually stage your images and they never mentioned it to you, then it's likely that your clients weren't aware that was a service you provide. If that's the case, make sure you promote that you can; for instance, when entering a vacant property use that as an opportunity to tell your client that you can virtually stage it, and promote the two advantages I mentioned (turnaround and quality).

Excellent information. Thank you very much. You are spot on. I have a Z5 and love the pictures it renders especially with the 85 F1.8 lens. I was considering buyin a Z7 2 because it has a price drop and could not understand why when I am very happy with the Z5. You answered my unconsious impulsive buying question. I do not need it. Thank you for the great information and understanding.

I admire your work very much and also your clear and concise explanations. This color correction lesson is very helpful. Just curious though, you don't use a color checker or Spyder Color Checker in your workflow. It obviously is unnecessary, but why? I shoot vast church interiors and use a Spyder Checker. I correct color "spills" differently, but your method or ditection and correction will be helpful. Many thanks!

Thanks! To your question: As I mentioned in the video, color temp and balance will vary greatly throughout an interior space, so using color checkers or gray cards provide little assistance for accurate colors throughout a space. Second, time is of the essence doing real estate photography, so using physical color aids of any type will soak up valuable time. Since a color checker or gray card aren't reliable for interiors, the time spent using them is not worth it. Instead, there are numerous, faster ways to deal with this in post, which I cover in my course Expert Editing for Interior Photography, here's a link if you'd like to check that out: ExpertEditing.NathanCool.com

Hi Nathan, I'm starting in RE photography here in Spain and I love your tutorials and advices, so much that I want to get better with you by buying either your books or online courses. ¿Do you recommend more one over the other? I wish I could afford both (courses and books) but I can't right now. I lean more to the books as I am buying a kindle soon and I'm very used to learn by reading. Another doubt I have is wether reading your books in a black and white kindle might be less educative than watching the photos in color. I hope you can help me and solve my questions. Thank you very much, I appreciate your content a lot!

Thank you! Feel free to email me directly at [email protected] if you need more info, I'll be happy to explain differences and any concerns you have. In short, my courses at LearnRE.NathanCool.com provide a more comprehensive approach to learning RE photography than my books can. The courses cover more material than the books do, and each course comes with about 30 video lessons, each going in-depth with me showing first-hand how things work, and are accomplished. The courses are updated regularly, which is something the books can't offer. The courses also come with RAW files so that you can follow along and practice (the books don't come with RAW files, only the courses do). And if you are enrolled in my courses you get 50% off private Zoom sessions with me. My books, btw, are in color; both the print and e-book versions. The "Kindle" version is best read using the free Kindle app, available for most devices, and the e-books can also be read using a browser. Thanks again, and feel free to email me any questions directly.

Thnaks for the tips. I belioeve I produce images well within the top 20%, and often get agents ask me to reshoot other peoles work, so I know I have that bit sorted. My biggest issue, is that agents here in the UK do not pay very much for the work we do, and as soon as you put the price up, they dump you for a cheaper photographer, even though the work they produce seems to be rubbish at times. Gettiong the prices up seems to be the biggest problem, and right now, even though Im working 6-7 days a week on this, I still dont make enough to pay all the bills, let alone earn a good living out of it. Any suggestions gratefully received.
@NathanCoolPhoto14 күн бұрын
You're very welcome! I work with photographers in the UK and I can honestly say that the issue you're experiencing is the same here in the U.S. and other countries as well. It's not a UK thing. What you're "experiencing" is an overgeneralization, and it's not accurate to any market. Instead, the issue you're seeing is from not seeking out the "right" clients. About 80% of real estate agents have a short career lasting just a few years, so they tend to cut corners. The other 20% is your target audience, which is why I suggest the two approaches of 6-degrees and Local Lure like I discussed in this video. Once you have done the initial research I talk about in step 1 in this video, you'll eventually get into client research with those two approaches, which, as I mentioned in the video, requires you to look them up to see if they are a big enough producer to make it worth your while. But above all else, don't group all clients into one bucket. That's an overgeneralization that can harm any business or industry. Lastly, although you feel you are in the 20% quality bracket, it would be good to get the opinion of other pros to see if that truly is the case. I do offer this with remote sessions via Zoom, if you're interested you can email me for more info at [email protected]

Hi Nathan. Book buyer and KZbin Subscriber here. This video certainly aged well, no doubt. At the end of the vid you ad "if you're really looking to up your game you might want to consider the Z6ii/Z7." Looking at this video in late '24 the Z5 and Z6ii are priced nearly identical on KEH. Do you still believe the Z5 is the best choice when the Z6ii is the same price? I would like the 2 card slots, but the advantages seem to be tipping in the direction of the Z6ii. I have the Z5 in my shopping cart at KEH but am reconsidering and would appreciate your opinion.

I still use this setup, and much prefer the Z5 over the Z6.

Why is the z5 newer than the z6?
@NathanCoolPhoto18 күн бұрын
Camera manufacturers release different grade cameras at different times depending on a number of factors, but primarily what they believe will sell best at a given time. The Z6 was initially released in 2018 and Z5 in 2020. Why exactly Nikon chose to release the Z5 two years later is something only they would know for sure, but in the big scheme of things, it's the product, not its release date, that is most important. I have both cameras, and for stills I much prefer the Z5 over the Z6.

Hi Nathan, your videos are great. I've been following you for quite some time. Two questions: I've been doing real estate photography for around 4 years, but I'm thinking about getting into event photography, too. My budget is limited. You say in this video that Nikon Z5 is a great affordable camera for real estate, but is it also good or acceptable for events? What lens do you use for real estate with this camera? Thank you for your videos.

Thank you! Lens and camera choices vary by budget and there's a lot to discuss on the subject, but this can help you with that question and many others you may have: amzn.to/3Yo7Xm0
