Thank you for the explanations; I LOVE how this shows that design is not right/ wrong when fully worked out (neither is anything), it just is, and to revel in the exploration.

I love the idea of a missing building altogether. Reminds me of my favourite book, Tristram Shandy

I enjoy the purposeful irregularity of the Siza School. At first glance, it is disorienting chaos and it makes no apology. The rhyme and the reason are soon discovered to provide an affinity that visual convention could never approach.

I think the Documentary Series was Called Baukunst (Building Art) 2001 - 2005. I don't know anything about the English version.

The architecture School of Siza Vieira isn't placed in Lisbon as she keeps saying on the video but in Porto.

I hated this build on sight but was gradually seduced by the use of light and shadow in the arrangement of the shapes.

At 7:00, it is written "bonjour tristesse" on the wall ; it means "hello sadness". It perfectly shows the opinion of people about modern architecture nowadays ; sadly...

it's a joke. he has a building called bonjour tristesse in berlin, named so because somebody spray-painted that phrase on the top of it in the 80s, which he decided to leave and has been there since. obviously a student or someone painted the same thing on the school, to add a bit more irony to the place

Architecture is more than theory, it's something where people LIVE! Theory should be no more than a support. Architecture should be felt without reading any book.

go to My channel, there is a dropdown menu in one side of the video preview that says "modify", press the arrow and select "subtitles", there will be a pop up menu that asks about selecting the language that is the most talked in the video. once you are done with that, in the right side of the video, in the bottom, says something like "the comunity contributions are disabled in this video" and right away is the option "activate", i hope it works

Architectural theory is trying to explain objectively a subjective process that originates in an individual need. Architectural theory is as astrology is to astronomy. It is actually quite sad that many architectural students are forced to reason a process that cannot be reasoned, but only liked or not.

Many thanks for posting. This major project has yielded disappointing results. On a par with Wright's NYC Guggenheim Museum -- and be advised that I don't mean this as a compliment. They have many problems in common, a major one being the susceptible finishing materials used for the exterior surfaces which also look disheveled. And despite what the architect says he intends, the result is quite heavy handed in the way its forces its inhabitants to look and move -- again, just like Wright!

So, costly, energy inefficient, low quality finish building complex with an aesthetic charm of an electrical utility building.

@26:35 the architect literally says, "Whenever I finish a building, I nearly always feel disgust and concern." Yeah, maybe because this building is the ugliest one in the entire city. What a jerk, to ruin such a beautiful landscape and pretend it's an artwork. Architects like this shouldn't ever receive such funding and responsibility.

This video is trying to show deep meaning in something that has no meaning.
