My family went on the Fairstar the year after this ad came out.

Love what used to be fine dining. And those sparking wine glasses!

Did a Christmas cruise on this ship in what ended up being its second last year in service. Whilst it was a lot of fun, the ship was certainly starting to show her age and down in the lower cabins the air conditioning was less than optimal for the tropical climates she cruised in. In the end it was new maritime laws and increasing reliability issues that sent her to the scrapyard. New maritime laws would have required a major change to the layout of her lower decks, and coupled with reliability issues with her engines, the cost was too high for the nearly 45 year old vessel.

The music was originally for the true P & O liners add back in the 70s. Not the Fairstar.

FAIRSTAR, FAIRSEA & FAIRSKY were popular in their time, at least they had the character of a real cruise ship and didn't look like a floating block of apartments riddled with casino and shopping malls inside designed to suck every dollar they could out of the passengers...That same jingle was also used for P&O too.😉

I agree its all about money & how much the company can take from the passenger. Anyway you need a much needed disposable income to afford any cruise these days
