These look really cool. You can get this effect with any watercolour paint though. Just mix a granulating pigment with a non-granulating pigment, then watch them separate on the page. It's really fun experimenting, you may be able to get these exact effects with colours you already own.

Oh, I SO understand what you said about art college-"prettiness" just wasn't taken seriously, or in vogue-even though I majored in illustration. Nature, botanical and fantasy illustration was not considered "serious" enough. I love your work and conversation so much.
