No surprise though (about the Ethiopian guy), all of the scholarship at that time tried as hard as it could to separate Ethiopians, Berbers and indigenous Egyptians from the continent of Africa because they don’t have “black features” (referring to our nose and lips mainly). Even the western media considers & idolise Ethiopians as superior Africans because of their light skin complexion, plus many Ethiopians as well as Eritreans look down on other Africans or Africans-Americans. @@nunbusiness6872 Largely because Ireland has been an incredibly poor, largely rural nation for much of its history. The influence of the church did not help. And it suffered after the Normans invaded (much in the same way as the indigenous English - though of course they had suffered from earlier Roman occupation also). Very few poor countries can manage to take other nation's wealth, let alone run an empire, without having the resources to do so. The main reason why Ireland has become so prosperous is due to its membership of the EU, and subsequent largesse in the form of EU funded infrastructure projects (and undercutting other nations on corporation tax), so it does owe its success largely to the international community, even if that wealth has not been 'stolen'.

Unfortunately the very elegant and eloquent boy from Nigeria did get his facts wrong: None of South Africa’s current tribes (Zulus, Xhosas, Sothos etc. were in the Cape when the Dutch arrived in 1652. Only the indigenous inhabitants: the Khoi (Bushmen). Only with the arrival of the British and with them the expansion of the border of what today is known as South Africa did the “europeans” come into contact with South Africa’s black (in those days called Bantu) tribes. An extract from Wikipedia: The area fell out of regular contact with Europeans until 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck and other employees of the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, or simply VOC) were sent to the Cape to establish a halfway station to provide fresh water, vegetables, and meat for passing ships travelling to and from Asia. Van Riebeeck's party of three vessels landed at the cape on 6 April 1652. The Cape was under Dutch rule from 1652 to 1795 and again from 1803 to 1806.[10] The group quickly erected shelters and laid out vegetable gardens and orchards, and are preserved in the Company's Garden. Water from the Fresh River, which descended from Table Mountain, was channelled into canals to provide irrigation. The settlers bartered with the native Khoisan for their sheep and cattle. Forests in Hout Bay and the southern and eastern flanks of Table Mountain provided timber for ships and houses. At this point, the VOC had a monopoly on trade and prohibited any private trade. The Dutch gave their own names to the native inhabitants that they encountered, calling the pastoralists "Hottentots", those that lived on the coast and subsisted on shellfishing "Strandlopers", and those who were hunter-gatherers were named "Bushmen".

@@benhayward78 hmmm if you get your facts from Wikipedia then I'm very worried about the credibility of your statements. However, south Africa as we know it today wasn't just some empty virgin land waiting to be conquered. No, it was rather a part or even an identity of the nomadic African tribes cycling through the plains and Mountains of that area. Also I wonder why the Khoi tribes just magically ceded the land to the new Europeans? Maybe history isn't telling us all we need to know.
