This has been a magnificent experience,and I must have sang these carols many times as a lad.

Ah, music that actually celebrates the REAL meaning of Christmas! Well done!

The BBC needs to televise this every year, and not just as a radio broadcast on Radio 4.

They do. On BBC 2 every Christmas Eve. As it has been for years…
@habakkuk7625 күн бұрын
@@DaC10101 but the BBC2 service from King's is not a live broadcast of the one on Christmas Eve on Radio 4 and Radio 3 the following day. The video is a pre-recorded separate service following the same pattern.

Christmas is not complete without this beautiful service of lessons and carols. I love the solo that opens the service "Once In Royal David's City". That is classic.

My former church in New York (St. Thomas 5th Avenue) does a lessons & carols service with a choir of boys and men. The place is PACKED. My church here in Florida has a co-ed choir and they do it also. But it's just not the same without those pure treble voices.

Lovely to come back to this every year. The Sweelinck is a treasure, even if i think the singing could have been a touch more gathered. Pity that the 1978 Ledger recording has been taken down for copyright.
Thanks for posting Too bad the spirit is ruined by incessant commercials thanks to a greedy tech monopoly

I hope you realise the adverts are nothing to do with us. They are inserted by KZbin and as you say, are inexcusable.

Thanks for uploading this. It takes me right back to my childhood, watching this very Carols from King's with my parents. Do you have the 1991 Carols from King's? Great to see Sir Stephen Cleobury. Much missed. It's great that the choir is in such good hands under Daniel Hyde, who, like his illustrious predecessors, is doing a brilliant job.

Traditional, anglican, cathedral singing doesn't get much better than this, really, does it? But why mess about with the descants?
@habakkuk7625 күн бұрын
Blame David Willcocks and his successors! I love 'em!
@SSB-im9mn25 күн бұрын
@habakkuk76 Lol. It's precisely the messing about with the Willcocks descants that I object to. Why anyone thinks s/he can write beter ones beats me! Happy Christmas.🎄
