Spectacular review. Not merely because I agree with you, but in awe of how well scripted, acted, and produced. A lucid description of a complex and wonderful game, entertainingly presented. I think this really will help people choose whether to buy the ...Blighted Reach. Keep up the good work

This is my favorite review of Arcs: Campaign. I love Tom's review from SUSD, but you were able to provide concise examples of how the campaign mode creates stories and Tom was only able to allude to it. This is the definitive review that I'm passing on to my friends. One of my gaming groups is going to play the campaign mode for the first time tomorrow night - very excited!

I see Arcs like Starcraft. You have a narrative campaign that you will enjoy and learn the world you're playing in and then a multiplayer mode where you build a base and army and go and destroy each other. You'll probably play the campaign a number of times while the multiplayer will be played for years and years to come.

Hey great review! I find it really crazy that after playing my first campaign, I talked with my friends about a similar feeling of storytelling to what you described, during the games I am only thinking in mechanic terms, and then the next day while thinking about the game I realize of the narratives present. Still, a great experience all the same

Good analysis of a complicated game. I liken the base game to a regular Boardgame. The campaign is more of an RP experience - with rules attached. The downside to the campaign is the rules overhead can swamp people. But I think its a necessity of the emergent gameplay experience.

Overhyped! Too random! If you don't draw the right cards you automatically lose and there's LITERALLY nothing you can do to mitigate it. People interacting with me and not just letting me run away with the win makes me feel sad. People running away with the win because I don't interact with them makes me feel sad. Time to play a game where luck of the cards won't make my big brain moves meaningless - time to go back to Ark Nova I guess.

@@115-Gaming Oh 100% 🤣the fact that there's even a question cracks me up though - some of the online reactions to this game have me really scratching my head. Arcs is so good, I really can't wait to try the campaign! Unfortunately my plays have been split across 3 different groups and nobody has felt comfortable yet stepping into the extra stuff the campaign adds. I'm really hoping to soon! Love your content, I'm anxiously waiting the completed of your current campaign playthrough as well.
@115-Gaming2 ай бұрын
@@justinvamp15 yeah it's tough because I feel like most negative reactions from the game come from ppl's negative first impressions and so they've given up immediately without trying to engage with the game any further. On one hand, I do believe ppl would come around on the game if they played more than twice but on the other hand you can't force someone to keep playing a game if they really didn't enjoy it their first time 🥲
@justinvamp152 ай бұрын
@@115-Gaming Yup that's pretty spot on! I think a big part is just the assumptions that come from having played other space games and the fact that it doesn't play like those. Your video about coming to love Root after hating it at first should be required viewing for all board gamers haha. I understand people have limited time to play board games because of real life so if something doesn't hit right off the bat it's understandable to want to spend your limited gaming time playing something you immediately enjoy. I think it points to a general consumerism problem that's the same with TV shows, social media, and other things where there's so much stuff out there that if people don't have their attention grabbed the very first instant then they aren't willing to put in the time/effort to really explore it. It's tough because first impressions really do matter, but delayed gratification and a game that takes lots of plays to grok the depth of are things that lots of people in the gaming space just aren't willing to engage with when there are so many shiny things that are out there. Along this vein, I think it is telling that basically every single review of Arcs, positive or negative, has spent a significant amount of time mentioning that the mini pack is much worse than the wooden ships because the functionality isn't as good. A couple of the reviews have spent like half of their time talking about this, and reviews of so many games talk about the components and the fancy miniatures, or wishing that a game had them. It makes sense that in order to be immersed there has to be a level of quality, but also it points to the fact that very shallow and surface level things like having plastic minis are what a lot of people care about rather than the depth of gameplay. Which makes perfect sense when people form definitive opinions after just a play or two before moving on to the next shiny thing.

@@115-Gaming One of the things that bothers me the most in my own playgroup is the tendency my friends have to declare "that ability is overpowered, there's nothing I can do about it", or to definitively state that one strategy is 100% stronger than another after their literal first time playing a game. I always try to say that we are just barely stepping into this game how could we possibly know?
