I think that the more laid back drums in the later albums isn't "worse" drumming. I think it just shows that Helders is a good team player because he holds back when the song demands it, and that's very important when you're in a group. There's no one-upmanship, just synergy.
@eoinmacdonnchadha56823 жыл бұрын
Sure, but they just weren't as interesting as the more thrashy drums in their early stuff
@matiwav3 жыл бұрын
@@eoinmacdonnchadha5682 Oh, man. I'm sorry if you don't think Star Treatment isn't interesting, Batphone is one of my favourite drumming lines, American Sports is otherworldly groovy Although I do agree that it's not Perhaps Vampires Are A Bit Strong But... or Pretty Visitors, being less energetic is NOT synonym for less interesting Shit, I think that my favourite drums from Humbug are Dance Little Liar, Fire and the Thud or Jeweller's Hands, although I also like Dangerous Animals and My Propeller. Sometimes laid back and or working for a simpler quieter rythm is THE key to make a good song tl;dr: calmer ≠ boring
@eoinmacdonnchadha56823 жыл бұрын
@@matiwav No I just think they happened to be interesting while remaining energetic. It wasn't the thrashy punk vibe that made it better of course. Also the drumming in Pretty Visitors is repetetive as all hell, and it's easier to play than it sounds. Again, not bad. Just unremarkable compared to some of his other beats in my opinion.

Matt Helders didn’t even play drums on “Batphone”. Other than a synth and baritone guitar, Alex Turner played all of the instruments. There are many other songs on the new album where other drummers are credited. It’s really too bad since I love Matt Helders, but I guess his style didn’t fit with a lot of the new slower songs.
