The structure of the song actually reflects the lyrics. The slow, chill intro is the day time, then when the sun goes down it explodes and is chaotic, then at the end the sun comes back up

If you find Turner's voice unusual that might be because he's unafraid to sing using his natural accent & write lyrics using local slang. That seems to come (partly at least) from his admiration for the Yorkshire folk singer Jake Thackray who did the same thing. Thackray also wrote playful, humorous songs that were mini stories in themselves, something Turner also seems to enjoy. Excellent channel btw.

Ford Mondeo was a very numerous family/reps car, hence inconspicuous. As for his voice, you can really hear his South Yorkshire accent, especially in the early stuff. Owt is a shortened version of nowt meaning “nothing”.

A Ford Mondeo was the boring middle class family sedan of europe (the later models were sold in the US as well under the Ford Fusion name) So the client looking to, err...buy, is likely married. It would be really interesting to see you reactions on songs from 'Humbug' (3rd album) because it seems like this one seems to really divide the fans bc it's a love it or hate it kind of thing; and because you liked 'Love is a laserquest' from the 4th album, I think you might be amongst those people who like it. Obvious suggestions would be 'Crying Lightning', 'Pretty Visitors' or 'Cornerstone' (all three are VERY different from eachother but I love them all) but a personal suggestion from this album would be: 'Secret Door' And 'The Jeweler's Hands'

Was gonna tell you about the background to the track just as you talk about it. I’m rather fond of the track “Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secure” from their first album about a night out and the taxi ride home. The famous black cabs door locks are controlled by the taxi driver and there is a red light on the door handle inside the cab which is lit when the doors are locked hence the title which amongst other things stops people jumping out of the cab without paying. I also love it because I live in the same village in Sheffield that the band come from and have often told the cab driver after a night out “It’s High Green mate via Hillsborough please” which is a line from the song.
