Thank you for sharing your insights on the Arcus S8! When you settled on purchasing the S8 was this after considering and or playing the other bows in the S line? (S4, S5, S6, S7 and S9) Dealer recommendation? Will your wood bows now gather dust or can you see yourself still using them for some pieces?

Bob Morrow hi!! Yes I have tried S7, M7 and M5. The S8 was far superior. I do find my wooden bows with dust. Sad cause I do love wood bows, but great that the S8 is still my bow of choice for whatever gig I do. One bow fits all- hard rocking cello bow or the finest classical cello bow.

Hello Ilse: which stick type did you select, round or octagonal? The Arcus site mentions more spring in the octagonal, and more 'follows your hand' for the round stick - did you test both?

would you recommend a carbon fiber bow over a wooden one for actor musician things? I'm thinking it would be less likely to warp/change tension. Which is an extra challenge when you are in the middle of a play in different theatres etc and just have to pick your instrument up and play immediately without time to adjust etc. do you have any thoughts on this? thanks very much xx

Josh Considine hi Josh yes I do theater shows and it’s so great for them. Virtually unbreakable (well I banged the tip a few times and that never came off unlike my wooden one) you can leave it wound up in long breaks and it’s lighter. Yes the changes in temperature make no difference to it. I just find it perfect for theatre work.

Carlos Musico hi, There wasn’t an S9 available when I was trying the bows so I’m sorry I can’t help there but there may be places who send out bows you can try and then send back if you don’t like. Perhaps ask the arcus makers themselves. I’ll see if I can get one to review too and let you know!

No. I don't agree. I also own a S8, but in comparison to an old woodbow you don't have such a creamy, harmonic sound. Spiccato is much inferior than with a wooden bow. The price (5200 Euro) is horrible. Who really plays such bows?
