An Ardbeg for everyone in the core line! Excellent as always, Erik. :)

My appreciation for An Oa is growing. After tasting the Scorch, I can see the influence of charred Virgin Oak here. Some similarity to Uigeadail (roasted peanuts, baking spices) and some to the 10. Loads of chocolate and mint with great mouthfeel 👌

Another great review Erik and selection from the Ardbeg core range. The fruits, chocolate, and sweetness intermingled with smoke sounds like a pleasing dram. Cheers to the best drams!

Good review... It makes sense to have a range of products. That way, there's something that appeals to a wider audience and a wider range of moods... Slainte!

Exactly! And they have managed to have them at varying price points with at least one (the 10 year old) that remains affordable, widely available and (in my opinion) really good.

Hey Eric! I finally got round to purchasing an An Oa from my local dealer. Nosing the neck pour accompanied by this video got me interesting insights in your way of associating descriptions. Writing this, I still have not tasted it. However, I am at the moment working on a small tasting-list for someone who is close to me and who wants to get into whisky. Up to now she only got sips of whatever I happened to have myself when she was around. Now, I would like as a real introduction, to present a kind of typical maltyness - which I mostly find in relatively low-priced basic whiskies. Right now I think of - based partly on what I have open at home - on 1st a Dalwhinnie 15, then a Laddie Islay Barley and then the An Oa. In the An Oa, the smoke does not cover the maltyness but working with the sherry influence, complements it incredibly. At the same time, the smoke is mellowed by sweetness. Yes, this whisky definitely has a place in Ardbeg’s range! The palate has now definitely confirmed what I wrote above.

You're looking great Erik and great set too. There are a few bottles of this at my local LCBO that I have had my eye on. Looks like I'll have to grab a bottle this week, thanks. Cheers my friend.

I think different styles of whiskies have their time and place. I mostly choose whiskies based on my mood, the weather, when I am drinking it etc. So, I'm glad Ardbeg made a whisky that is a little sweeter and more approachable than their other bottles. Have you had any of their other whiskies? Do you have any favorites?

@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I am new to Scotch so I have very limited experience. Right now I have Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10, Dalmore 12, and this Ardbeg. The Lagavulin is my favorite so far but I find them all enjoyable. I've tried some others like JW Blue and Glenlevit 12 but keep going back to the Lagavulin. I'm always on the lookout for my next bottle to purchase.

Cool! Exploring the world of whisky is a journey and there is always something new to try. I try to encourage people to visit local distilleries or travel to whisky regions to get a "behind the scenes" understanding and appreciation for it.

Great review. I’ve been struggling through a bottle of An Oa for a week now, trying to understand it, but I’ve felt a little frustrated by it. Your tasting notes definitely helped me get a grasp on this whiskey. Cheers from Oregon!

So dry though isn’t it ? I thought I was going to love this but it didn’t do anything for me, I got strong concentrated aniseed but I have only just opened it, do you think it’s the neck poor ? It seems to concentrated to rich to be pleasant.

Has it changed since you opened it? Mine was straight campdire ash and smoke when I first sipped. It's just now mellowing to the hints he's discussing.
