Got Normandy 44 and France 44 and wasn’t really going to get another Bulge game but this game overview has convinced me...One more Bulge game is coming

What did you use the white tile spacers specifically for in this game? Just did a bathroom reno and have a bunch left over so thought I’d ask..
@jeffcapuano33804 жыл бұрын
I use them to mark which units have moved.

Did you ever play the Avalon Hill 1981 version of the Battle of the Bulge? If so, how does this compare in complexity and enjoyment?
@jeffcapuano33804 жыл бұрын
I do have bulge 81 and like it. This one is bigger and has greater complexity (not really "complex" just more) than B81, but is still more accessible than some of the truly monster Bulge games. Given that all Bulge games are meant to be frustrating, this one is enjoyably so. Now that my "game room" is a home office, I don't have much table space so the smaller B81 is more likely to get a play!

@@jeffcapuano3380 Nice thanks. I still have BB81 on my shelf. The counters are so faded I can hardly read them LOL so I'm thinking about getting something new. You got a nice KZbin channel.

I have n played Holland 44 and Stalingrad '42. Both👍👍👍👍. Also have Ukraine '43 but have not played it yet. It's like +-#5 on my to play next list. This looks like I'll need to get this too.

Huh. I bought a board game "Ardennes 1944" three decades ago and this looks like a more complicated version of that, with far more stuff. So I guess it evolved in subsequent editions.
@jeffcapuano33803 жыл бұрын
This is the 3rd edition of the game; I *think* the first edition was published about 18 years ago, so maybe it was that one? I remain a fan of this one, but I've had to surrender my game room and most tables so I can't fit it anywhere. I actually "updated" my ancient Battle of the Bulge '81 just because I can fit it in my current space. Good game as well.

doesnt look too solitaire friendly
@jeffcapuano33805 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's too bad solitaire. Not much fog of war and minimal interaction during player turns: bridge demo, artillery and air support; that's about it. Otherwise it's basically igo-ugo

I am going to second this. I bought the game for it’s obvious 2 player appeal but wanted to learn it so played it over a few days to learn some of the rules. It was entertaining. The person to,person competition isn’t there of course but if you can consider it a German vs American battle it does offer interest. It’s also got enough bits on the map to mean it’s not really possible to consider deeply both strategies simultaneously so you can catch yourself out regularly and with dice roles there is sufficient (but not too much) randomness to mean the tactics won’t always go as planned. It will play it solo again definitely.

May have to get this one. My other Bulge game campaigns are not really playable, like Time for Trumpets and Last Blitzkrieg. I like the system, I have Holland and i would like the Ukraine one, as well.

Nice overview. The map art looks great, but I will always steer away from games that cheap out with paper maps. I’ll stick with Butterfield’s game instead.

And what makes this version less a boring slugfest than any of the others?

Nothing; if something is a boring slugfest for ya it will always be so...
