Thanks Sal, you are worth your weight in gold. Your videos are the best I have found and have referenced them often. Just laid 12x24 tile in kitchen....you made it do-able. I used Ditra, you were right on with your instructions. If I were younger I'd consider it as a vocation...but boy was it ever a work out. Thank you for EXCELLENT videos.

This looks much more flexible than ditra...maybe for small spaces like this is best?

I have to level my plywood floor, its got a good half inch dip in the middle and some lippage from sheet to sheet even though its T&G. I plan on going 5/8 underlay on top of 5/8 subfloor to get a good solid base. Should I use self leveling cement between ply sheets, or on top of the underlay before uncoupling membrane. This may be a dumb question, but can you mix different uncoupling membranes having them butt up with each other?
@SalDiBlasi3 жыл бұрын
Not a good idea to mix different brands of membranes, stick with one. Check what you need for a subfloor for your application, here is the ditra handbook, pdf.lowes.com/installationguides/4011832035982_install.pdf Self leveler goes under the membrane, not between plywood sheets. Some spot patching may be all you need. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4Cmq5x6n5uBac0

I have used detra and strata mat also prova. usg makes a nice one but whats your height on it after tile and how thick is the tile? I am doing a floor and need to go as low as possible bit I don't prefer the mapei Crack isolation mat I need to go thin match up to some floating plank
@Toolstilediy5 жыл бұрын
Is this cheaper than ditra and strata?
@Mrdubomb3 жыл бұрын
When installing flex bone on plywood do you use modified or un modified, the entire plywood floor has been primed with a sika primer and patched with self leveling cement in various spots

I use a radiant heat mat on my wood floor, I use Ardex x5 thin set on the bottom of the mat and also for the 12x24 porcelain tiles . One year later I got called back the tiles are moving not cracking, if you walk on the floor you can feel the tile separating from the thin set i picked up the tiles the thin set bed is a little thick maybe 3/4 to and 1” in some areas, and there’s cracking all over the thin set mortar bed! The guys did set the bed in blobs of thin set then push the tiles down into the thin set where did we go wrong?

There is your problem, the spot bonded the floor, a big mistake, it will always result in a failed install. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5nMmJp9qMlkiLc

can it be installed directly to the subfloor ?
@SalDiBlasi8 жыл бұрын
+Baltazar Romero Yes, that is the point of an uncoupling membrane.
@richardvera99464 жыл бұрын
Do you recommend this membrane for floor installed mosaic tile
@SalDiBlasi4 жыл бұрын
All thew uncoupling mats work the same way, they all have a minimum tile size limitation. so check if you tile is suitable for the mat.
@richardvera99464 жыл бұрын
@@SalDiBlasi I forgot to mention I have linoleum as my subfloor and plywood under that. I was looking at the ardex 740 didn't see a minimum size the only downside is I have to remove the linoleum in order to attach membrane to plywood
@SalDiBlasi4 жыл бұрын
It is probably true that you need to remove the linoleum no matter what you do.Might have to also remove the plywood underlayment if it is Luan or only 1/4". Get back to the subfloor.

Ardex doesn't show the thinset being used on substaight. They just show it as a floating overlay.

Never mind I was looking at the 720 floating system.
