My biggest recommendation with the uncoupling membrane is be sure to use horses/table or something to bring it up to waist level to cut.Getting on your knees to make every mark and cut is murder on your knees/legs

Sal is a professional. I'm sure his price is higher than the 2500.00 cost for the original improper demo/install. Sal is also the sole contractor involved. By the time the original installer got paid after the 2 subcontractors that he was working for got their cut, he probably ended up with around 1200.00 to do the actual work.

Hey Sal, great job!!!! Our shower was tiled using the 3d wave tile. Our tiler used schluter for corners. We have an issue. Some of the edges on the niche are not even, also some of the edges on the corners look uneven, sticking out above the schulter. I'm guessing because of the 3d nature of the tile. Is there a way to fix this? Can they use a polisher or somelthing to smooth those out? should grout be used to "hide" this problem? I know it's 4 years later, hoping you can help me out with your expertise.

It is absolutely essential to finish the job in one pour. if you let it dry and come back and try to continue pouring, it will NOT be flat.
@extremerecluse18 күн бұрын
This is why tile setters get paid so much; hours and hours of prep. Never, never attempt this kind of job by yourself. This job requires a minimum of three workers.
@extremerecluse18 күн бұрын
If you don't have enough to finish the job, you are screwed. Make sure you have at least 5 extra bags and return the leftovers. This stuff will crack no matter what you do. If you have a small room like a bathroom, fix the structure by removing the subfloor and sistering 2 x 6s to the existing floor joists. You must determine the highest point in the room and everything is based on that height.

I could write up a whole long thing here but I'll make it simple: Big box stores/Big builders pay trash rates (even if they bill the customer close to individual contractor rates*) Workers getting paid trash rates cut corners to maximise output for what they're specifically getting paid for If you want a good installer, find a contractor that trusted acquaintances recommend (best method imho) Expect to pay more for a job done properly than what the big box stores or big builders offer (not necessarily by a lot) Otherwise expect this or worse, because that's what's on offer there and no YT videos or expertese lectures will change that reality (Speaking from personal experience, there's an impassible trench the size of the ocean between tile setters aiming for high quality+high rates unfocused on square footage versus Low quality+Large square footage per hour at low rates. They aren't interchangeable and they both need to make ends meet every month and do, and will continue to, simple as that.) PS: I could've made this a book, this is the short real talk version of it.
