Ardnamurchan Cask Strength AD/02.22 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky: Best New Scotch Distillery?

Today I review the Ardnamurchan AD/02.22 Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The Ardnamurchan distillery is located on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in the Western Highlands of Scotland and is owned by the Independent Bottling company Adelphi. The first spirit came off the still in 2014 and the first official release came out in 2020. Since then Ardnamuchan has fast become of the most impressive of Scotland's new distilleries. This is the first release of Ardnamuchan's Cask Strength series. The whisky has no age statement but is comprised of Whisky distilled in 2014 and 2015. It is natural colour, non chill-filtred and bottled Cask Strength at 58.7%. It is comprised of 84% peated whisky, 16% unpeated and is a vatting of 45 Ex-Bourbon casks and 5 Sherry Hogsheads.

Great Review Matt, i got this bottle recently actually the AD/09.22 bottling, and i already love it, i love transparency and information they give us about their products, we whisky nerds appreciate it 🤓. Hi Sir I just joined your channel, and love your reviews, I know where a bottle of this is, and I'm going to pick it up, I have a bottle of daftmill 2006 summer batch, but just haven't been able to open it. I think I remember you doing a bottle of springbank but not sure, and I think you said it was very hard to get where you are, I have bottles of 10,12 cask strength 15 and the 18year olds, it's not available much where I am either, but about once a year I can find it, but I'm 60 miles to my favorite liquor store, so I have to plan my trip to pick up any bottles, but I have a friend who works at the store, and he let's me know when something special comes out, so this bottle is on my list, thanks for a great whiskey review, cheers brother and keep the videos coming !!!

Hi Frankie, welcome here and thanks for the comment! It's always nerve wracking for someone to pick up a bottle on your recommendation, as everbody's palate is different. I really hope you enjoy it, I think its a great introduction to Ardnamurchan. Springbank indeed is challenging to acquire around these parts(British Columbia) but I am glad you've been able to cobble together a real good representation of their core lineup. Visited Munchen many times. Loved the Marienplatz, the English Gardens, and the Beer Halls(Really enjoyed the Augustiner Helles). I just checked your channel and am now a bit sheepish to tell a TSV fan I do cheer for FC Bayern, even before Alphonso Davies was on the team. Though, if I could choose any team to win the Bundesliga, it would be SC Freiburg, what a lovely club that is.

Hi Matt, great review and love all the background of the distillery you go into. The Ardnamurchan CS is on my wish list to hopefully buy soon. In the UK the CS 09.22 has been slightly discounted so it'd be interesting to have a comparison to see if the recent batch is still as good. All the best!

Hi D L, thanks for the comment. On the CS 09.22, if you check out Dramface, they have a few articles about the first release(02.22), and one about the 2nd release(09.22). There seems to be some people on either side of the debate as to which is better. What seems evident is that both are still good! 👍 Cheers 🥃

I don't know if the Kilchoman Distillery can be considered as an young distillery but it has also really good stuffs. Sanaig was my first peated whisky and I felt in love. I've never tried Ardnamurchan yet. It seems delicious too.

I have a soft spot for Kilchoman as well Leandro. My favourite releases from them always seem to be their 100% Islay barley releases. The Sanaig is definitely a crowd pleaser, as I finished my bottle a long time ago! Cheers!

Ardna is definitely on my short list for my next bottle, probably the top. I would have gotten it on my last go round but I figured I better get the Port Charlotte 10 before all the speculators grab them up, since Ralfy named it whisky of the year. Right now, I'm just soaking up the reviews to see which one I'll be getting. 👍🥃

I really enjoy Port Charlotte. My PC10 bottle isn't a recent batch(certainly not Ralfy's) but it is still very good. On Ardnamurchan, I'm hopeful to find a bottle of their recent Madeira Cask release.
