Note, the lack of hall effect sensors doesn't mean it's open loop control, the ESC reads the voltage coming back from the coils (once the MOSFETs are off) to determine the actual position / speed of the motor. If this wasn't the case, then when the motor started to get under load it would lose sync completely. Model aeroplane 3 phase motors are the same (no hall effect sensors) and they work fine in sensing the load, and adjusting the frequency accordingly.
@JJJulie-t7e4 жыл бұрын
It's a terrible solution for motors that start under load. You can actually initially rotate in the wrong direction, and applying full power is generally not a good idea. It's cheap though! However, that rotor looked weird to me. Was this brushless PM or induction? I guess each slice could have been a polarized magnet.... In induction, you need a current path (the cage). Or maybe VSR...
@johngaltline99334 жыл бұрын
@@JJJulie-t7e Nothing wrong with using back EMF for sensing. It's not as good as using hall effect sensors, but it's cheap and easy with modern uP's. It will get the business done plenty good enough for a hand drill.

the one I bought uses sealed bearings on the rotor. The ones in this video are shielded. So yeah, there's likely a real hodge podge of parts being used to turn out all the counterfeit impact wrenches. Everything appears to be a cheap clone of the real deal, from the switch (Omron in the Makita) the connectors, the LED light, the ESC and the battery rail. The gear housing and transmission are as close to OEM as it gets. And I wouldn't be surprised if those are being stolen right off of a Makita assembly line.

This happens with smart phones all the time and honestly they deserve it, if they want to go to china for cheap production than they can take the downsides that come with it.

I use mine since this vidjeo. I love it, it helped with many rusted bolts, and I also did built a house with it. It's still going strong. The only downside is, that it ate 2 original Makita battieas. Don't let them go under 2 bars, and I think you're good to go!

That's the best it's ever going to get for me, you on the other hand churn out videos like the World is going to end. Maybe we should have a chat some time. I sure could learn from your way of doing things. ALSO: Fun fact: This cordless impact exists in a few other colors (orange, white). The white one is available for 10€ on Ebay!

I used to buy cheap tools, until I realized I would save money by buying quality and using it longer time. My industrial surplus workbench and vise are decades old and still work like new. My $50 Black and Crapper corded drill died after light use with steel and wood, so I bought a Dewalt and it should be better. My cheap $20 pipe wrench broke, hopefully my new $30 one will be much better.

I picked the Makita battery platform, partially because of the BOLTRs. I haven't regretted the purchase once and, even as a lowly home gamer, they have been a joy to use. I'm not one to tell anyone where to spend their money, but I don't want to encourage the race to the bottom. I'm going to continue to buy the real deal. The batteries are where the money is at anyway...
@thatsunpossible3124 жыл бұрын
I also stick to Makita batteries. I found an adapter which lets you run Makita batteries in Ryobi, which is great for stuff that Makita doesn't offer, like tire inflators.

I got a decent deal: charger, 3 batteries, impact wrench and cordless drill. My Wera screwdriver tips fit into the impact no issue. The drill is indeed NOT SDS, and the hammer action is well, probably useless, but I just use a wired heavy drill if I have to go against masonry anyway. The only issue with the impact, is that it will drive the screw into whatever material, and then keep going until you get to the other side, if you're not careful enough. Or it will try and rip your hand from your arm.

Dude I love your videos. I will literally sit down and watch your channel for hours straight. I’ve watched almost all of your BOLTR’s and love the detail you provide. Do you have any formal education with these small electronics/motors/plastics? Or is it just knowledge you’ve collected overtime? You seem to have an insane knowledge of the manufacturing processes for the tools you review. Did you go to school for this, or have your travels led you to pick up on a lot of it.
@rlew124 жыл бұрын
The motor is most likely running in closed loop. A lot of the brushless DC speed controllers look at the back EMF to determine position. I'm guessing it's by looking at the signal from whichever coil is inactive, but I haven't looked into how they set up the logic for those things. This is why hobby RC motors sometimes twitch when you first turn them on, it lets the brain box know the position of the motor
@aaronhammond72974 жыл бұрын
I think you'll find this is not a brushless DC motor.
