When you buy processed foods in the store, they may contain more of the oils that can make the foods turn into acrylamide. Most packaged foods are really unsafe due to low quality oils and ingredients. Safer way is to use only unprocessed foods. A potato is safe when you cut it and use it to cook in your air fryer. It takes practice to get right, but you know what is in there.

That doesn’t mean microwaves don’t cause cancer. I’m not saying they do, but the evidence your using to draw this conclusion is extremely misleading, that’s why some social studies have revealed that following your own experience as a predictor or decision maker, is unwise, it just suffers from to many biases especially if your not aware of how flawed It is , one professor went as far as saying “ your own experience is a really bad way to predict future outcomes” I wouldn’t go that far, but you should at least be aware that you’ll rarely draw accurate conclusions frpm anecdotal information, only, particularly if your using that kind of reasoning to make decisions for your children.

the biggest factor is how toxic it is to cook with devices made from plastic, this is far more harmful. cancer causing chemicals are released when the plastic is heated such as; - Bisphenol A. - Phthalates. - Polystyrene. - Acrylic. - Polyester. - Polyvinyl chloride. Plastic contains harmful or toxic chemicals that disturb the human system. In addition, if it is heated, the plastic starts to release an excess amount of these chemicals. Therefore, ensure that the foods are not reheated in plastic containers to prevent such toxicity.

The main problem is people crank the heat all the way up thinking they will shorten the cook time. I always set for the same temperature I would use for frying. For prepackaged fries/tater tots I sprinkle a little salt on them before cooking. I do 5 minute increments and salt/shake them in between. I don't expect an air fryer to cook faster, I just like that it doesn't use as much energy as a full sized oven. They really should market them for their efficiency as opposed to being faster.

It doesn't matter how you prepare it, oven, pan or airfryer, the color of the food after preparing matters only. The government from my country made a TV commercial with the slogan " Bake golden yellow and not golden brown" . Also we are warned about baking and grilling, included stirfrying, that it is causing air pollution ( fine dust) inside the house on very high levels and even higher than along the highway road. So you should always do that under an kitchen extractor hood on the highest setting or open windows if you don't have an extractor hood going directly to outside. So in that matter I also put the airfryer under the extractor hood. I personally care more about clean air inside the house simply because it is prooved that fine dust is very bad for your arteries and shortens peoples life. Sorry for my foreign english grammar.

@@sfworld4368 apparently you don’t know how microwaves work. The cooking waves travel vertically inside a faraday cage. I don’t think the air fryer per se is the dangerous part. But I would be a little concerned with this non-stick accessories, that come with the air fryer, when those accessories begin to break down (because they are probably made of some Teflon-type materials…not sure if it is Teflon exactly I think they started trying to phase out that dangerous material, but I think the material that is non-stick in general isn’t best/safest for you to use… so when it begins to chip, still beware) … but I use paper and silicone liners with the appliance to decrease the chance that any non-stick paints will break off and leach into the food. If you want an interesting and entertaining, close enough, depiction of what exactly happened with Teflon years ago, go watch the movie Dark Waters. It was very good and close enough. I would say that those materials are still used today, and people are unaware they only cook safely until the material begins to chip and scratch, when that occurs it is time to throw it out and replace.

The movie is about Teflon manufacturing though, specifically PFOA. Finished Teflon as you'd have in an air fryer is inert and according to (among many!) the US FDA, Teflon chips are not dangerous to accidentally consume. PFOA is also not allowed to be used in manufacture today.

I only think about such health worries if the fryer smokes and gunks up. A clean air fryer is smokeless and gunk free. NEVER SPRAY OR APPLY OIL TO AN ALREADY HOT AIR FRYER BASKET AND CATCH BASIN and you get no tarry gunk build up. Apply super thin layer of oil to the cold surfaces and it will form a second no stick hard enamel seasoning that repels tar and gunk. Less scrubbing, less scouring, less ware on your no stick surface. Easy soft sponge and hot dish water rub off. Occassional deep cleaning involves 1 hour soaking in hot dish water with baking soda to increase caustic grease breakdown

good remark. i have been screaming head and tail about the scare article. but in all honesty, acrylamide isnt ONLY produced through air fryer. technically, any means of cooking the starchy food. as long as u REACHED the reaction temperature, the same food will turn into acrylamide anyway. In short, what type of appliances is quite irrelevant. Acrylamide production is defined by the Food you cook. and the temperature you cook at. Not the APPPLIANCES you decided to use. this is important such that u know, regardless if you Oven bake your fries, Deep fry, BBQ the Fries/ Potato, when it reaches the SAME reaction temperature, It WILL produce Acrylamide. this is why the targetting focus of Just air fryers are absurd. you might as well just put the original article as 'any means of cooking any potato/ french fries and starchy food at XXX Celcius will give u acrylamide' this sentence is far more accurate than the focus associating it with ONLY Air fryers. Hope my description clears the air for the rest of the world. And personally, i think whoever that perpetuated this 'study' on the 'dangers' by putting into the picture with 'air fryers' must have been the competitors of air fryers (Conventional Pot & Pans and cooking oil producers ) HAHAHA

So basically acrylamide come from overcooked food: food turning brown or worse, black! But what's funny is we can get those brown or blackened food not only from air fryer but also other means of cooking. Even overly done bbq food can have those blackish substance on your foods. So that's why it is very unfair to say that air fryer produces cancer-inducing substance when any way of cooking can cause such chemical to be produced. So it's important to get our facts straight. So in regards to Acrylamide a key thing you missed in your video, to minimize the amount of Acrylamide in your food when doing virtually ANY air-frying, portion control is one factor but the other factor is HOW MUCH TIME IS COOKED, what type of food is used and food preparation. For example, if you prepare your potato's and soak them in water long enough and then you do an Air-fry, you reduce the amount Acrylamide. In addition, if you cook your fries in 180 instead of 200+ and then you cook it one more time at 160, to get the crisp, you already reduced the amount of Acrylamide in half.

Suggestion: there are many videos out there where is teaching you how to cook fries from normal potatoes which everyone have in their cupboard, so cook stuff as much natural as you can ❤ , also there are like paper trays to put at the bottom of the air frier tray so your food won't touch the non stick coat if you are afraid of that

My question is about the material the surface is made of where the food cooks. I don’t use nonstick pans. I know a lot has changed about Teflon and similar surfaces. But I didn’t think about it until I got mine. I haven’t used it yet. I have been wondering if I want to send it back and get an air fryer oven that is made from stainless steel. It’s a little more but wondered if I would be happier

Well no technically things like hot dogs do cause cancer but if you aren't eating 500 a year it wouldn't directly kill you, they can verify it by pumping 100x the normal dose into a rat to induce death and show that there is a certain amt of cancer causing agent....If you find someone who eats hot dogs like people smoke cigarettes, you'd have a lot more people dying of cancer from that. (Still not as much as smoking as nothing is as hazardous to our health as smoking is).

Airfryers are the new convection ovens or the bulky turbo broilers in the 90s. If you're scared of the all metal air fryer then just get the convection type from the 90s with the glass body and stainless steel grill. It uses the same hot air circulating in an enclosed area.

People it’s a combination of the food and the air fryer itself. If you turn your air fryer upside down you’ll see the heating element and all the gunk around it. It’s very hard to clean so each time you use it you’re reheating that gunk & it’s fusing into the food. The designs of these air fryers are downright stupid if you ask me. The heating element should be able to be removed easily so that it can be cleaned properly. Throw them away & force these manufacturers to redesign them.. they don’t care about our health, only our dollars. 😡😡

Air fryers, rice cookers, instant pots - are the ONLY safe way to cook using Teflon, in my opinion. They're incapable of going above the temperature that breaks down Teflon coatings, creating toxic gasses. People's stove tops and ovens easily become too hot. The bigger problem is people's choices of food and the smoke point of the oils they're using to cook with.
